Having had loads of problems with my dial-up service recently i am considering Broadband but I don't want to pay more than I need.Wanadoo have a service for 17.99 but the monthly download limit is 2Gb.We mainly use the Internet for surfing, emailing and the occasional music downloads and according the chart they have we wouldn't use as much as they say you can have. But has anyone got experience of these limits and are you able to know exactly how much of it you have used or does it just stop once you hit the limit???

    Hi Laura,

I signed up with Wanadoo when they brought out the 17.99 service in. As yet, they arent measuring your usage - they say it will be turned on later in the year. No doubt a ploy to get people used to using loads of bandwith.

But they have said that when they do start measuring, you will be able to monitor your own usage throughout the month. So therefore if you do anything that takes up alot of bandwith (maybe downloading songs?!? I really dont know), then you will be able to see it using up your monthly allocation.

If you mainly just surf and download emails, I dont think you will have a problem.

Go for it - its a world away from crappy dial-up!

    Adam.

    Hi Laura

I'm in the same boat. I've not heard of Wanadoo but am desperate to get off of dial up - it's painful.

Do you have a phone number or contact that I could use?

    cheers

    Wannadoo = New freeserve.

I've heard 'good' things about Bulldog Broadband from people in the office. With BT myself though.

I use NTL it's 17.99 per month and they have upgraded it from 150k to 300k for the same price.

Thanks for all those replies, I'm seriously considering it now!
Ken - Is NTL unlimited use?
Adam- As mentioned, Wanadoo is Freeserve, you can get a disk from Currys I think, and The Link phone shops used to do them.

I've spent the last few days looking into broadband, the best I could find was Bulldog Broadband (owned by Cable and Wireless). Just signed up, 20 pounds per month, 512k and unlimited download allowance. Only thing is it's 50 pounds to sign up.

NTL is unlimited use, and as long as nothing goes wrong, it will be fine - although they do seem to have more than their fair share of outages.
Their Customer / technical service is non-existant, but what REALLY P****s me off is their accounts department. We have not had a rational bill since we started with them last September. I finally got so frustrated - recorded delivery letters being ignored, wrong Direct Debits, wrong service charged for, and a whole lot of other problems, that last June I issued a County Court summons. They held their hands up, said they would reform, and asked to settle out of court.
I agreed, but not only were the next two bills completely wrong, we got a letter from their debt collection agency!
I have had the case re-instated in the County Court. I have told their legal department that I am not prepared to settle out of court as they appear to be unable to ensure that their accounts department straightens themselves out, I want a Judicial Order requiring them to do so.
The case is being heard on August 25th.

I have Blueyonder broadband and there is no limit. Tricky bit is you have to be on cable - and also it depends on where you live as to whether you can access Blueyonder. However if you go to their website, they do a postcode search so you can see if you are eligable.
    Happy hunting.
