Has anybody on here had experience of buying a car from one of the web companies which offer significant savings on new cars?

If you have had a good experience, what was the company?

    Not at all Conrad. Smile

I was going to change it for an A4 cabriolet, but decided we would miss the load space. Instead we are changing Robbie's MX5 for something we can fit the grandchildren into and still have the roof down. The MX5 is 18 years old now and still in brilliant nick (flies through the MOT every year), but it deserves to have a home where it gets driven every day and Robbie uses the train now.

Yes - and then no because I went to a dealer and beat their price by another 2% and saved their fee. (£500)

So do some research, put a best price in mind then go and negotiate with a dealer (start low) - be prepared to walk away, you can always go to another.

Ah, that explains it. Well, I know just the thing. Will take lots of grandchildren. What do you think? Wink

I bought through Drivethedeal.com they negotiated the deal and then put me straight in touch with Bristol Street Motors, the main dealer, with whom I finalised everything. Seemless and with good savings. I'll use them again.

You have to register with Drivethe deal to get access to their discounted prices, but a check on the VW EOS diesel gets you a saving of £4482 on the list price, bringing it down to about £16,800

Cheers, will take a look. We have looked at the Eos but it rattlestoo much. We will most likely go for the Ford Focus CC3. Drives beautifully and no scuttle shake.

    CC3 with 2 litre petrol @ £15,510 and 2 litre diesel @ £17,005.

Found a diesel for £16k, 15 miles on the clock. Drove the diesel and it's a peach, the petrol struggles with the extra weight according to all the reviews I have read.

Only one word of warning Ian. If you are not the first owner, some insurance companies won't replace with a new car if it gets stolen/written off in its first year. Other than that, sometimes better to go with the one you've seen and driven and are happy with.
