I'm going to be walking the South Downs Way in the summer and as I will be carrying a rucksack with my clothes etc in it leaves me without anywhere to carry my SLR + 1 extra lens. I'm looking for a camera bag that can be attached round the waist as well as having the option of a shoulder strap too. Any ideas? I know Lowepro have a selection but are there any other makes worth looking at?

CCS do toploading bags that i think should give room for your needs. they also run to lots of accessory pouches in matching colours. i used these CCS bags for sometime, but have now switched to a crumpler bag which i think is A1, but not quite to your brief.

My local Jessops (Worthing) normally carries a good selections.

Suggest try your own local Jessops / local photo dealer.

Best to try out various types / makes to check easy removal / replacement of camera, lenses etc, security of same, and comfort to wear and use, personally for you.

Better than choosing from catalogue or internet.

Other members may like to tell you what personally suited them, of course, which may help to look at a fewer number cases which have proved their worth from the many.

    I'm from Worthing too.

Know any good Camera clubs around our way?

Sorry Rubric, I'm not a member of any clubs in this area. Try:

Out of interest, does anyone else find the lack of useful information that Crumpler actually provide a severe detriment to their superb products?

I have heard a little about their new line of rucksack-type bags, but none of the information I find actually tells me anything useful. I mean, all the silly bag names and lovely bits of strange dialogue are all good and fun, but it would be nice if they actually showed you more pictures of how the insides of the bags actually looked, like LowePro do.

I'd like to get one of their rucksacks, but I'm not going to fork out what will most likely be a lot of money for a bag that I can't even see - it means I don't even know which ones to get Jessops (if they even stock them) to order in for me.

jessops are short on crumpler other than teh small disital bags, and these are just like anyone else's (aside from the silly names) jacob's have lots tho' and they're on public display for you to pick up and play with if you want! i think they're relying on brand to sell to you. as you say they have a reputation for quality, and they think we're gullible enough to go for it! well i am anyhoo!

    Have a look at www.billingham.co.uk/
I know they're not cheap, but they don't look like a camerabag at all and they are very, very good.

Lowepro's Off-Trail 1 & 2 fit your bill. Will give you room for an SLR & 2 lenses and will work as a beltpack or with a shoulder strap. ePHOTOzine shop sells them too.

Can only recommend what I've got. A Lowepro Nature Trekker II. Take it from someone who has arthritis of the spine, this is one seriously comfortable backpack.

I use the Lowepro Micro Trekker 200. In a similar question in another group, a large percentage with the 10D use this or the Mini Trekker. There's a photo here of someone else's bag and contents, it's not mine, I don't have two bodies! Wink

Use the mini-treker. 10D and 4 lenses, spotmeter and flash. Love it.

J would also need 2 bodies if he is to use a back pack for his camera, and a rucksack for all his other stuff.

I had a look at your thread above, Frank.

With all those cries of "Show us your bags" I was tempted to add "Show us your knickers".

    What a Carry On!!!
