Hi All,
I am looking to join a local camera club in or around Balerno. In addition to meeting like minded photo enthusiasts to refine my skills, I am also looking for Darkroom, Scanner and Studio facilities. I would highly appreciate your advice in this regard. Thanks ![]()
Have you tried googling "Balerno Camera Club". This search came up as one of many: http://www.clubbz.com/find/Balerno/Photography/clubs/4
There may be a closer one, but the Edinburgh Camera Club (in Great King Street, I think) has its own premises. Don't know about facilities.
Neither Carluke nor Kinross are really near Balerno. Balerno is now virtually a suburb of Edinburgh, just a little farther out than Juniper Green and Currie.
Hello everyone,
Thanks a lot for your response and sugestions
I agree with LeftForum, both Kinross and carluke are atleast 30miles drive from Balerno. A 60 miles round trip to attend weekly meetings and using club facilities is bit too much of a commuting time and fuel for me. Plus I am not sure if they have Darkroom and Studio facilities.
As mentioned by LeftForum, I looked into the website of Edinburgh Photographic Society on Kings Street. They have their own premises and very good facilties , but bit expensive plus have lot of members. So I need to find out how long are the queues there to use Darkroom and Studio ![]()
After searching on Google I came across one more club i.e. Midlothian Camera Club (12 miles from Balerno) having their own permises with Darkroom and Studio. I have contacted them around 3 weeks back and still awaiting response. I wonder if anyone checking the emails delivered on Club's domain or their mail server is working properly!!

If that club is anything like the one I am in, it virtually closes down for the summer from April until September. There are also camera clubs in Musselburgh and Penicuik although they are round the city bypass from you.
Livingston Camera Club also has the stuff you are looking for.
Their 'year' starts the first Monday in September but they meet at the car park at Crofthead Community Education Centre (Templar Rise, Livingston) between 7-7.30pm on Mondays and head off to places as a group to take pictures.
There is nothing stopping you from dropping by.

You're not by any chance related to the Brian Mcmeechan who does windows in Alloa are you, Baz?
Thanks everyone, for your responses and valuable suggestions. I think I am leaning more towards Livingston Camera Club.
Hi Kaybee,
I was reading through the club handbook and at one point it says:
"You are also able to book centre rooms for studio use, with booking of these facilities done through the office at the Crofthead Centre. Note that a charge is made by the centre, on an hourly basis, payable to Crofthead."
Any idea of how much those charges would be?
I tried to online search online but can't find any further info! Would appreciate your help here ![]()
I can't honestly remember and it depends on which room it is (size does matter in this case)
but I think it is about £10 an hour .....just don't quote me on that.
Using the clubs equipment would not be permitted until after full membership is paid when the
club resumes in September
