    Hello everyone, can you help?

I just can't think what something is called. Remember old-fashioned calculators or adding machines? Some had a roll of paper, and your calculations would appear on that paper, that would come out of the machine.

What do you call that paper? In Dutch we call it, translated, an 'adding roll', but I don't think that works in English. Wink

Does anyone know the correct term?

I hate to say it, but I think the words you want are "Adding Machine Paper Rolls"? Smile

If you were in a retail environment, that would be a "till roll" or "receipt roll".

I needed it to find a freeware calculator program that shows all my input, and searching for "calculator roll" on download.com seems to have worked, so thanks!

Ah, interesting term - quite ancient in the field of calculators and adding machines. But no paper roll - unless you mean 'comptograph'... (Handy, wikipedia!) Smile

That's reminded me of my first job after I left school............
There was another room full of "Comptometer Operators".
Never did find out what they did!

    From dear old Wiki:

"Patented in the USA by Dorr E. Felt in 1887, the comptometer was the first commercially successful key-driven mechanical calculator"

We also had a room full of them - and a 'Typing Pool' Never did have a dip in it, though! TongueWinkWink

Ah, the "good" old days. I was taught to use a telex machine, and used it in my first job. But I liked the fax machine a lot better when it came, and I just love e-mail!

I used a Telex Machine (for the County Council) - punching holes in a strip of paper (any errors were permanent, no tipex or delete button then!). Smile

There you go - the delete button and the backspace button are some of the greatest inventions of this time! Smile

Even then it took the computer some time to accept changes to the passwords. In the early days if you made a mistake logging in the backspace key was recognised as a keystroke not a correction so you had to be spot on first time. Most frustrating for someone like me with lysdexic fnigers.
