Probably a silly question, but everyone seems to go on about buying 'L' series lenses (for Canon's) and I wondered why no one raved about Sigma stuff?

How does the 70-200mm EX f/2.8 compare to the Canon 70-200mm L?

    Or the 80-400mm to Canon's 100-400mm?

    EX lenses aren't exactly cheap!

no where near youve handle my hallowed L series and you liked it, like i said a mate of mine bought the 50-500mm sima ex told by the camera shop it was better than the l series and just as fast focus hahahah slow noisy focus and it broke down leaving him with out a decent lens for 4 months whilst the jokers tried to fix it now he's a L series converrts . I bought a used L series 7-200 2.8 that was 6months old still using it 4 years onwards still as sharp still as fast never let me down once

just ring up jessops and ask them how much they will pay for a used sigma even the EX range you will be surprised. the olnly sigma options for me will be the wide angle they seem to make a decent wide angle.

If you discount the Canon WA's that is.

well Ive earned a bloody good living over the last two years using sigma exclusively just so my gear didnt get lost in a sea of identical white lenses

Ive now switched back to canon L glass purely for contractual reasons and the only lens I have got to say is an improvement has to be the 70-200 IS
and then its only marginally faster than the sigma version
with maybe a slightly better colour repro

sigma make good kit, not as tough as canon L but good stuff
    none the less

And that I think is your answer.

You may not like blending into the crowd but there is a reason most pro's use Canon and not Sigma.

    Mike.

Totally Canon professional lenses - except for a Sigma 105 macro

Yep....somebody point in the direction of a GOOD Sigma wide angle that will not only produce the goods but withstand the weather and I'm selling the canon gear (non-white) and defecting....(just in case some people are watching...I jest)

Hey come on keith, its not like you to jest and poke fun at people! Never used Sigma and seeing as I'm not planning to, I should probably leave this one alone!

What then? Sinking into a crowd of inconsequential nonentities? LOL

Used Sigma - once! (negating a 500ST flash)

    Vowed never again.

Might have a look at their 300-800 but I suspect I know what I'll get.

For some reason people keep emailing the mags with photos saying 'taken with a 70-200 f2.8 lens'. Have a mind to reply with - you need your monitor calibrated as your contrast is about -7, saturation about -10 and you need to do a bit of USM. Oh its a Sigma - well that explains it.
