I'm planning to order the 40D from Keaphoto in Hong Kong. I've dealt with them before several times and cannot recommend them highly enough. The price has come down. I can get it for £655 plus £39 for a Canon 3 year extended international warranty.

Quote: I am struggling to justify all the cost of a new 40D at the moment anyway.
Sorry i meant i cant justify it to myself. I agree that sub £700 is a great price, but i am a humble student and the turbo on my car has just packed up and i occasionaly have to eat, not to mention drink!!
But i am looking into Keaphoto, they look pretty good to me and its more of an incentive as they come recommended.
Sassie, do you mean you recommend using Keaphoto via Ebay or just through their actual site? Their proper site doesn't seem to work at the mo..
I buy from Keaphoto through ebay and haven't had any problems at all. Apparently, the chaps who run it are photographers themselves, so they take pride in doing the best for their customers.
Kea are great. But buying in HK to save £30 or so ???? Sounds daft to me.
Unless the saving is significant (at least 20%), I would not bother.
When you cost in all the expense of decent photography gear, getting stuff from HK to save a mere £30 does sound daft to me too. It also seems a waste of time waiting around for a camera to drop in price by a few £ too. If it is stretching the finances to such a point as this- save all the anguish & get a 30D.
I might be totally wrong, but don't most suppliers only offer a one year guarantee?
Yes. The 3 year extended warranty will be with a 3rd party outfit. Probably a MACK warranty or something similar. The only problem being you might have to return the camera to the supplier for them to get it repaired which would mean packaging it up and returning it with insurance to Hong Kong. Not cheap!!! Always look at the small print in extended or 3rd party warranties.
just found this canon 40d on gumtree
£300 and limited stock?
Why would any one sell the camera new for over £450 less than the standard rate. They are either generous to a fault, it is a con or a miss-labled product.
A business that trades through hotmail, this one screams stolen goods or con to me. Probably worth reporting it as a suspicious advert.
the rules on gumtree are that you meet up and exchange the goods for cash
so that rules out paying for and not receiving
That leaves stolen goods.
sorry but why would a legitimate business sell the camera for about £400 less than it costs most shops to buy it?
And you can still get the duff goods in box scam.
It's your money, and I wish you luck, it may be the deal of the month.
But I have always found, deals that are too good to be true, are.
Arnie, if you search the forum, there was an advert in gumtree for 5D for 400+€. And I have also received email from the same website telling me I have won a versace handbag.
If you want to go for it, then good luck.
sounds like stolen
wonder if canon have lost any
I hope you like your new handbag Cole
