I bow to your more intimate knowledge Wink Personally, I'll just rely on a couple of lolly sticks and a rubber band!

Quote:Canon 50D versus Nikon D90 - Which is the best??

Quote: Canon EOS 50D: Verdict
It looks to be a bit of an awkward release to me. The features are good, but not as good as the D90 which was released on the same day. The EOS 50D also has a couple of things that are already found on Nikon cameras such as the higher screen resolution and equivalent higher sensitivity.

If Canon want to get back some of the ground they've lost in the DSLR battle, I can only hope that the rumours of the EOS 5D MkII are true and that it has a truly remarkable feature set.

Follow the 'liny-Link' to the review Cole. The quote is from that review. Wink

There's a huge price difference between the D90 and the 50D. Even the D300 is cheaper then the 50D.

Agree with Chris - article lacks proofing and contains speculation about a product rather than opionion based on real world testing.

Also does the D300 go up to ISO12800 - news to me.

I know there that quote is from.
I am just not sure what that quote is based on.
Doesn't matter.

"The features are good, but not as good as the D90 which was released on the same day."

Now if you talking about value for money (D90 replaces D80 I believe) and at a different price point to the 50D then that makes sense. What will be interesting is the comparable ISO6400 performance as the Nikon appears to have larger photosites.

No.1 and 2 features in a camera are surely it's focusing and image quality.

Some thoughts

Canon 50D - 15.1, Nikon D90 - 12.3
Canon 50D - ISO12800, Nikon D90 - ISO6400
Canon 50D - 6.3fps, Nikon D90 - 4.5fps
Canon 50D - 14 bit?, Nikon D90 - ?!
Canon 50D - no video, Nikon D90 video
Canon 50D - micro adjustment, Nikon D90 - none?!

These facts do not appear to support your article

Nikon is 12 bit, but UK RRP indicated as 699.99 which is amazing value and the implimentation of video is a fascinating development with the DSLR market

Canon has a UK RRP 1199.99 so compared to the Nikon in terms of pricing that's 400 for the slight increase in sensor size, frames per second and one additional stop in camera.

As above the proof in the pudding will be Canon's new sensor technology, hopefully new focusing system (Face detection suggests improvements) and speed / accuracy of focus.

The Nikon has an impressive feature set for the price but Canon users will hope for gains in focusing as the equivalent crop camera (price wise) from Nikon is the D300 with it's superb focus array.

+++++++++ if you're already got Canon or Nikon + Lenses and stuff why/would you swop over. Think that'd be a resounding NO we won't!

So the cameras are aim at the present users (as upgrades) or Newbies to dslrs......which is the bigger market.

I'm confused about the "target markets" for Canon's 1000D, 450D and 50D compared to Nikon's D60, D90 and D300 - they don't match very well! Am I missing a Canon model?

Prices from epz UK store.
