You are way too optimistic

Quote:Considering the current price of the 7D, I can't see this being particularly cheap and like the D600 I expect the price on its release to be set unrealistically high. I think if the street price of these cameras were to eventually settle to around the 1400 mark they'd be strong sellers and a little closer to justifying the claim 'affordable' FF [or 35mm format if you prefer]

If you look at any Canon release, the shop price within 3 months is nearly always 20-25% lower than the recommended price on release, so I think 1400 is well within likelihood. If the 70-300L is anything to go by that will be the price as soon as it hits the shops.

WEX price - 1799

not what i would call a competitive price from WEX or is there some other reason for the difference , although WEX are normally more expensive , they arent normally that far out ..

Come on, Andrew, you should have known by now that it is never a straight conversion. They don't call the UK 'Rip Off Britain' for nothing you know... Smile

Quote:All of my current DSLRs take CF cards and I have no desire at the moment to invest in a separate set of memory cards for another camera

If you're spending 1800 quid on a new camera, I wouldn't have thought the extra 20 quid or so for a few 16Gb SDHC cards would worry you.....

I'm looking at finally get rid of my 5D and 40D and finding something to replace them both (a single camera). For me, none of the current range offer what I want at a realistic price. I want bits of one and bits of another. Built in wifi would be fantastic, 20Mp is plenty, 6fps would be nice, although I rarely use the 6.5fps on my 40D and am never happy with the results when I do.... I love the flip out screen on my G12 and would like the same on an SLR. I couldn't not have FF.

7D looks really good, but isn't FF....

Can anyone point me to a side by side comparison of 5DII, 7D and the new 6D ? (5D3 and 1D are out of my range)

The camera's not due for release until December - at this stage I would not expect any retailers to be advertitising 'actual' shop prices yet so you can't take those prices too seriously. I reckon 10% down in November and if the camera sells well holding that price for 4 months.
If anything you need to compare this to the release prices of 5DIII (3,000, now 2,400 only 3 months later) and the 7D (1,800 now 1,100).

For a full frame camera, 1800 doesn't sound too bad, now.

Go to that page.
Click on Digital SLR on the left panel.
Type Canon on the left panel and search.
There will be a list of canon DSLR appearing.
You will see an option for 'add to comparison list' next to each camera.
Just tick that on the cameras you want to compare.
Once finish, click on Comparison List on the top left.
Et voila.

It does considering you can get a 5D2 for that and still have a better camera !

So they are supposed to price a brand new model below the price of one that has been on the market for 3 years? I would bet that the sensor on the 6D is better than that on the 5Dii so if image quality is your goal then the 6D is the better option. Again the customer has a choice.
