Hi all,
I'm thinking of going and buying a 7d tomorrow to use along side my mark4.
was wondering if some people who have one or used one could give some info.
whats the high iso like ?
is the AF spot on with tracking?
etc.......

I will be using it for sport and wild life birds etc
i also have a 5dmkII.
Use ine for American Football and Polo without issue, I would google the set up videos, they were listed here somewhere but I wouldn't know where to start looking.

one friend had an old sony 230 and said that give him better pics than the 7d but he invested to much money in it to sell it again as far as i can see the sensor needs to catch up with sony at least.... take a look at sony a77 it seems 24mp are big at the moment and from my mates a77 i'd have one if i was to spend that kind of money. but i'll stick with my nikon d5100 and its sony sensor wich im more than happy with for what i paid.
Took me a while to get used to the noise to be honest especially after my 30D/40D which were excellent for noise but the file size is way larger so maybe its more noticable, would i change it, no way its a great camera, used mainly for wildlife/nature/macro
the 7d is due to be replaced sometime this year so i'd hang on a bit longer if you whant to keep with canon......if its sports and wildlife you do then not much beats the sony a77 anyway at 12 fps at 24mp and a pro body can be picked up for less than £700 thats were my money would go because i've played with one and the 7d does'nt touch it in any way.
i have no reason to move away from canon to a sony.......
The cost for me to do that would range in the region of a round 25k . i would rather just not buy the 7D.
i have seen some pics taken with the 7D at iso 800 .

not to sure how they were processed but may have something to do with it . this is why i'm asking the question on how in real terms is the iso.

There are different scenarios with this. If you use the ISO to get a 'normal distribution' histogram it is usually pretty good at 1600 - if you use ISO to miminise shadows and still need to recover significant areas of shadow then the noise is good at ISO 400, bearable at 800 and manageable at 1600.
How you process it is important - global noise reduction is not the way to go: noise is more obvious in lagre areas of plain colour (bluse sky for example) so limit significant noise reduction to those areas. In areas of detail, the details masks the noise (and applying significant noise reduction loses detail). Follow these guidelines and it is decent up to 1600.
And if you print you can add a further 2 stops to all the above because prints are far more forgiving.
Yes, there are better models but the 7D is an old model now and when released it was considered very good.
The AF is still excellent!
