It's a telescope....

at 15Kg's, and focus with a bellows unit it is not much use as anything else.

For that money you could get a 600mm f/4, and I know what I would rather have...

Um, f3.8?

I notice there's also the dreaded red x for the picture...

Most of these mirror lenses are f/8 fixed...I can't imagine why Canon made this one with a variable aperture...

I think that was the same guy that sold a set up from a spy plane, camera and lens in an armoured box.

Do you think it would be OK to handhold? LOL

Knock out all the glass and it doubles up as a waste paper bin! LOL

Not fast or clever? Not clever maybe but f3.8 at that focal length certainly IS fast. And if the manufacturers could get their R&D together mirror lenses could be a lot sharper than multi element glass optics. I doubt we'll see them for a while though, serious issues with aperture/focus control, fine in the Hubble where it's manufactured set to infinity, not so good in the back yard...

Actually Hubble wasn't manufactured set to infinity, although it was designed to be - that's why they had to send a team up to fit it with specs Wink

Amazing what the result of one chip in the paint on a test rig can produce.
