Hi Guys I am thinking of buying the Canon EF 100mm f2.8 macro. It gets good reviews. I know its a fairly new lens but has anyone used it for a reasonable period of time? If so what are it’s good points and what are its weak points?I know it has been discussed before and I have read the review on the site, but as it’s been around for a couple of years now I would like opinions from those of you that have “used it in anger” for some time..... so to speak. Thanks G

Just buy it... now on IS version that is even better.

Just buy it! Thanks Geoff that’s exactly what I didn’t want to hear! I wanted pros and cons to temper (justify) my descision. LOL! I have to discuss lobola with the uncles next year and the kit has got to pay for its self! No I really do have to sort out my lobola!

Both the is and the non are fab , but the IS L version is superb as both a macro and a short telephoto
Cannot fault it, it is superbly sharp and the IS works v well.

It's a great lens both for macro and for portraiture. No weaknesses other than price and even then, there are good deals to be had.

totally agree with you justin c, I have heard nothing but bad news with this company and i do mean nothing but bad news, i have not heard any good news come from these guys.

Price should be a tale tale sign as well, you don't get photographic equipment at the prices they are selling for in this country, lots of ?????? marks, be aware.

Like a lot of these companies, Simplyelectronics seem to be great with high-volume stuff but when it comes to big-ticket items they need to source them from somewhere that will supply them at such great prices and I get the feeling that is where the problems start.
