As suggested in another thread, serious photographers rate some things more highly than ever-increasing Megapixel counts.
Looks like Canon has wholeheartedly acknowledged this point. (Not least because it allows them to challenge Nikon on some of those other factors).

Kind of expected this, but still expected a few more pixels - enough to provide the 60MB files requested by some stock libraries (which the 1Ds3 and 5D2 do).
Given that the 1D4 was already at 18MP, this really just looks like a full frame version of the 1D4.
Perhaps Canon has something else up its sleave for the 'studio' photographers.
"The EOS-1D X is the first EOS Digital SLR to feature Multiple Exposure capability. The camera can combine up to nine individual images into a single composite image, with no need for post-processing in a computer."
Dual CF card
Carbon fiber shutter blades rated to 400,000 cycles.
Electronic first curtain for minimal in-camera vibration during image capture.
Gigabit Ethernet
Accessory - WFT-E6A Wireless File Transmitter
Scheduled for March 2012 availability and will be sold in a body-only configuration at an estimated retail price of $6,800.00.
It will enable users of entry level DSLRs, such as the Canon 600D, to say "My camera has got just as many megapixels......... so it's just as good!" ![]()
A brave move by Canon. But one which will, I imagine, be applauded by pros............ provided it works properly from launch! ![]()

A-bleedin'-men.
But there will still be people out there who believe it will.
And that's a key part in keeping the wheel turning.
