ePHOTOzine is the first UK web site to deliver full details of the new Canon digital SLR, which will set a new price point, making digital SLR photography more affordable. Check out our full news story here EOS 300D
Comment about the camera in this thread.
The spec for this camera looks very similar to that of the 10D but for around HALF the price....bugger !
Can anyone see the differences between the 10D and the EOS 300D ??
Cheers
Dean
It looks very promising and may well tempt me. I think the big question will be the price of lenses. I see that the lens they offer, the EF-S, appears to be a new design aimed at this camera / market. Will they be extending the range of dedicated lenses and if so, what will the pricing structure be (prosumer or professional?).
Having bought a second hand D60 for 850 (inc a few accessories) at the weekend I don't know if I should be pleased or not!
As Pete said, I guess the big difference between the 300D and 10D is going to be build quality. Will be very interested to see the quality of the wide angle lens too.
Overall though a very promising and bold move by Canon.
Hi all,
Having read some forum details on another website (!) and taken a look at the Canon site, it appears that the new lens is specific to the 300D and may not be able to fit a 10D or other Canon body - something about a protruding rear element.
Be worth checking that out before dropping cash for it !
If this based on the 300 or 300v body then it certainly won't be built to the high standards of the 10D, or have access to the same accessories. It will also be interesting to see how it fairs with other lenses....and it's silver (yeuk) ![]()
Still can't wait for the next announcements rumoured to be in late Sept/Oct and at the 1D/3D level !

Just read the full review...lens is only available with the 300D body.
Pentax *istD anyone ![]()

Bri,
Probably the cheapest and easiest way to build a lens of those focal lengths - at only 100 it's pretty cheap. That protuding rear element sounds like a design compromise to focus the image whilst reducing lens elements.
Of course give it 3 months and you might find some on eBay - it just doesn't look like it'll fit on anything else...
