Has anyone out there bought this camera.... pleased with it, not pleased and more than anything else why should someone buy the EOS 1Ds Mark III at almost or even more than twice the price. I have the EOS 1D MarkII and want to buy another camera of 21 megapixels and need to decide between the two I have mentioned so, what does the EOS 1Ds Mark III have that the EOS 5D Mark II doesn't?

    Yes, and pleased.

Better AF, more rugged build, and a vertical grip build in.

I would also suggest that the 5D2 might have the edge in image quality - espically at hight ISO values.

Have it since last Xmas, very pleased with it, except when using it for action shots.

Why is this Cole - is it slow AF or low FPS... or something else?

when one reachs the top of the sporting togs how can one go any higher!!!
or maybe its down to the fact i dont get to shoot surf now as horses are the main earner

I have one; can't fault it whatsoever.

High ISO images are brilliant and the MP lets you crop to your hearts content.

A solid feature set to boot. If you have alot of canon glass you will be a very happyface photographer.

Sits very nicely above the 7D also:

However I do not think it is comparable to the 1Ds Mark III - a fairer comparison will be to the forthcoming mark IV.

With the Mark III you are paying for build, AF and similar pure image quality (the 5DmII just processes better).

I've had the 5D Mk II since January and I love it! I would give my husband away rather than part with my 5D - and I have a fabulous husband !

Picture quality is superb. The detail and clarity is outstanding. Easy to use and customise to your individual needs due to all the custom functions. You can crop quite extensively and still retain lots of detail.

It suits my needs perfectly but you need to ask yourself what will be your main use for it? Is it landscapes - (great), sports / action (not the top performed - or so they say), etc?

I've never used the 1Ds so can't really comment on that.

is that about your husband or your camera? Tongue

Stupid question Mark, Blueberry (Kerry to her friends) can only be talking about her husband... can't she?

I have had the new 5DmkII for a month now , I did have the first body changed over mind due to finding an excessive number of hot pixels on high iso low light shots , and the second body is much improved , though i have still noticed at least one obvious one .. cant fault the cameras performance , crisp , natural coloured well balanced shots, and as been said easy to customise , I have 3 settings on my camera dial now that i can switch that i set my own custom settings for , so during a wedding shoot for instance i can jump to a preset manual white balance av mode at f2 for in the church , tv 200 mode for flash at night , or standard auto av with f8 for outdoors and then can refine all these to my liking once switched , it does save time and is easier.

The camera feels solid , and i have had it out in the rain and in a red hot greenhouse steamed up with no issues.

The lens i got with it in kit is the 24-105L which is a great range and a very good lens by all accounts. Be wary mind some places are taking the lenses out and selling them seperate so not many places have the kit avaialble ( as theyre all ripping it to bits for a profit ) ..

Only thing i havent got to grips with yet is using it in the dark , my previous pentax camera all lit up modes etc and till i get used to this one going to have to use a torch to find out what im in !

    regards
    Andy

I'm generally pleased with my MKII. My only comment about it is that flesh tones have a red/orange bias to them. But I've sorted that now.
