Canon Image stabilizer 1 and 2 differences?

Hi All. i have a Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
It as two settings for the image stabilizer 1 and 2, please can someone explain the difference, since I purchased it it's been on 1. Thanks Pete

1 stabilises in both horizontal and vertical axes and 2 in a single direction only (useful for panning)

PLEASE read the manuals that come with any Canon product. It saves a lot of frustration and will let you get the best from your purchaseWink
