Have just started to use Capture 1 LE as a comparison to Adobe Camera Raw within CS2. Initial thoughts are that it makes a better job of processing. However I find that once I have modified the RAW file, it seems to overwrite the original RAW settings so when I re-look at the thumbnail it is a modified RAW. Is this normal for Capture 1, or is there a button or function that I should have checked?

The RAW file isn't being modified but C1 does remember what settings were used last time. You can reset the controls by using the red cross and exclamation button in the appropriate tab.

Hi Guys, Im thinking of going for Capture One LE as all reports seem good, I do uderstand that it needs a high spec computer as it can be slow?.
Does the LE version have the "Slider" to move between the different screens, I have seen demos on it but not sure if that is the Pro version only.

You can download trial versions of both C1LE and C1v4.

I've never had performance problems with C1LE but v4 runs like a pig on my machine (AMD3500, 2GB RAM) to the extent that the music players stutters when I process image files.

    Michael,
I find the oposite. 3.7 was slow focusing the preview (it often didn't re focus after a change). V4 focuses quickly. I have a 2.8Ghz pentium with 1Gb ram so not to shabby but by no means top spec. Some people who liked V3.7 have complained about the interface on V4. However if you have never used the older version this shouldn't be a prob. I have recently trialed V5 of DXO. I didn't like the interface and the output wasn't as good as C1. It seemed to make the pictures look "cleaner" than the original. I had a shot of some Mongolian wrestlers in dusty clothes. Processed in DXO they looked like they were brand new!

    cheers

    Al.

I find v4 to be quicker creating the thumbs, processing and closing than 3.7, but does seem to use a lot of resource. My machine isn't as happy running it alongside PS CS2 as it was with 3.7.

I quite like the interface but miss the facility to automatically write the processed images to a subfolder under the source image folder. I keep forgetting to change the target and then have to go hunting for the files. Sad

Find the LE version slower that CS, and thats with 2 GB of RAM.

One other question: Is it possible to prevent the Capture 1 Media Reader loading at start-up, sitting in the desktop tray (bottom right of screen)?

Thanks Justin. I have been able to do that, and it still loads next time the machine is booted. I just wanted to turn if off, so it didn't load into the system tray in the first place.
