I know this was touched upon when the beta version came out, but I'm amazed that Phase One have 'updated' a RAW converter that allows batch processing, and yet in v4 have chosen to omit tagging and the ability to reset defaults. Two very useful options when ........ batch processing.
Yes, you can work round the tagging thing by using the rating system, but it's annoying that I'm forced to use part of the software which was intended for marks out of 5. I just need a yes or no option - straightforward editing.
The more annoying thing is that my previous default starting point has to be applied image by image, which effectively means that I cannot batch process (unless I accept the C1 defaults).
Very disappointed, and now reverted to using v3.7 something.

Why not use 1 star for keepers and no stars otherwise.
As for batch processing you can apply your desired settings onto an image then copy the settings onto the adjustment clipboard which can be applied to a batch of selected images by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+V then pressing CTRL+SHIFT+D which will process the batch.

Yes, despite the fact that I failed to see a way to apply batch settings - the beauty of previous C1 versions was simplicity. Being able to set a default that sticks is an example.
There's another issue with v4, and that is it dumps a cache of files in "My Pictures" every time I work on RAW files. I thought there might be a way of fixing this, but now I've looked on the Phase One forums it seems not.
I don't see a problem withe new batch or rate system.
I can rate them with one click of a mouse and go through a file clicking Process to add them to the queue, which I can then ask to start processing either when the queue is fully loaded or whilst I continue to batch them.
It can also be stopped at any time during the procedure.
I am trying to like the new version. It looks good, seems faster, and scientific types say results are better.
It's a niggle, still, that C1 will happily remember that I don't want sharpening - and yet becomes amnesic about colour.
The fact that cache files are now about as inconspicuous as Paris Hilton is also a bit of a pain - I didn't particularly want them dumped alongside my tiffs and jpegs.
Regardless, I'll persevere.
I've just discovered what I've been missing all this time by being a PC user; finally got a mac running tiger and put 3.7.7 pro on it to find it's got all the UI of v4, plus extras like film effects. Bit late now that they're both in line with each other!

No they are not - you can't customise the toolbars on the windows version ![]()
Exposure first if needed, then levels. Exposure is a global adjustment whilst levels and curves are more localised, in fact curves can be made very localised indeed.
Black and White conversion short cuts are to be found under the little menu arrow to the right of the Exposure Tab....by the Auto buttons.
