old-golf-club--sepia---edit.jpg

Hi all, not my usual topic on here but I am in the process of mounting and framing this photo for my local golf club.
As you can see, it is a shot of the original clubhouse and I would like to put an approximate date on it.

I thought that as there are many motor enthusiats on here, that they might like a stab at dating it.

The club was formed in 1910 if that helps.

John

From the styling and curves in the body work it looks like 1940's - 50's

Well... I see a Morris Minor so that means that this was taken during the lifetime of that particular vehicle which was 1948 to 1971.

Looking at the rest of the more (at the time) 'modern' vehicle there (is that a Jaguar on the left?), I would say that this was taken in the mid '50's.

Thanks pledwith, but there's sure to be someone along in a moment with the exact make, model and date of each motor.Grin

I can't be precise but the pale-toned car 2nd from left appears to be a Jaguar Mk 1 or Mk2. The Mk 1 appeared in 1955, so the late 1950s would be consistent with the presence in the centre of the group of a Morris Minor 1000 and an elderly Ford Anglia van. The black car in front looks rather like a Wolsely 6/90, typically used by the police Flying Squads in the 50s.
Hope this helps!

Hmm... maybe. Or possibly a Riley Pathfinder (1953-57).

I'd agree.

No - it's an older model..... the 6/90 looks like this. Could be something like a Lanchester but I'm not sure.

There's also what looks like an Austin A40 Devon on the right of the photo....1947-52.

So I'd say 1950s but whether early or late is tricky............ I'd go for middle! Wink

Glad to have helped.... I think "c.1950s" is a safe bet! Smile

Upload a larger version - zooming in on the cars - and we can be more accurate.

I would also go for mid 50's.
The car fore to aft at the club house could be a Hillman or an A40 as mentioned.

I'd say the 2nd car from the left was a Jag Mark 2 - it seems to have the wrap-around rear window which distinguishes it from the Mark 1. If so, that puts the image at 1959 at the earliest.

I would second Mikes guess, Add Mid to late, That's based on recognising most of the cars because they have appeared in many old family snaps, My old Pa did like his motors.....Smile

If I was to stab a guess it would be 1957 ish.....Grin
