A friend of mine wants some pics of their Porsche before they sell it, and has asked me to take some for him. Rather than go for the straightforward snapshot approach, I want to try a night shoot. I recently saw some pics where the 'tog illuminated the car with the 'modelling light' on an SB800 (presumably by running round the car like a mad thing) while the shutter was open. Has anyone tried this, or can give me any hints about where to start, or is it just trial and error?
Better to paint it with light, f8 and take sample night shots until you are happy with the background density, note the time then set up the shot set the shutter to your time and take sample flash setting shots using the flash on manual and adjusting until you are happy with the exposure, then set the shutter and walk around the car firing the flash staying out of the shot, remember to adjust the flash to compensate for multiple exposures, here is my ideal setting, iso 100 50mm lens at f8, camera at headlight level on tripod, 35 seconds shutter, 8 flashes at angles that do not reflect you in the shot.

What about some night trail shots, set the camera on a tripod in the car and get the driver to drive about town, could be a different but good shot of the insides of the Porsche.
