I have a Mazda 323 Estate. My previous car was a Ford Sierra Estate. When I drove the Mazda home for the first time and my son laid eyes on it, he immediately said: "You bought a small car!" Not that much smaller, actually, but he was right in that the Ford did indeed have more space in the boot. And the Mondeo is just like it. I think the comment about Volvo may be correct, too.

Get an ex-plod Omega 3.2, huge boot areas, and loadsa fun when your driving down the m-way at 70 and all the rep nutters in lane 3 think you are an unmarked Wink

If I had the money and could afford an LPG conversion I'd fancy this

I'm on my second Honda Accord Tourer - it has a massive load space, bigger than the Mondeo's I believe. Cant fault it as a load carrier. I'm sure it would look very well outside Lobster Manor Smile

Quote: I've got a Zafira, very flexible and a very large boot

Even the Meriva is a good option. I had one 'til last year when a numpty without a licence parked sideways on in front of me trying to cross a dual carriageway! Nasty crash, but no-one hurt. Very safe car...

Not being a seven seater, the rear seats fold relatively flat, and unlike the Zafira where the second row push forward it actually left me with a longer loading area. I used to sleep in it for weekends away, and I'm just over 6ft tall. You can even get the passenger seat folding flat as an option. I miss the Meriva...

I'm still driving a Meriva..best car I've had for years. Driven 86000 in 3 years.

We bought it mainly to take the golf clubs, but it has a great high driving point. The rear seats move sideways and fold down completely flat.

The only drawback is the extremely dangerous blind spot (well documented) on the r/h offside front (but you get used to it)

I was averaging 35 mpg doing a lot of motorway driving at (relatively, alleged Smile high speeds) but since the petrol price rip off I've even been squeezing about 5 extra miles per gallon.
    Good luck

I had a Mondeo Hatchback. Fantastic car but it was getting abit long in the tooth. I had been thinking bout getting a new one for about a year when my father in law offered me his 3 series Beamer saloon at a price I just couldn't refuse. 30,000 on the clock, 2.0 diesel. So I snatched his hand off..

It's a nice car, don't get me wrong but I would have my Mondeo back ANY time. Comfortable, easy to drive **** loads of space, virtually trouble free (although I seemed to go through brake pads at a fair rate.

Just before I sold the Mondeo, I drove it again (after about 3 months of driving the beamer) and I just thought, 'this is such a good car'

Main drawback of the Beamer is:

The boot is the size of the glovebox. It's absolutely useless for carrying anything except a andwich box, and even then you're going to have to cut off the crusts. And I believe the new Mondeo's are even better. People used to say to me ' but it's a Mondeo' the subtext being 'it's boring'

but to me a car has always just been a tool and the Mondeo did the job superbly.

My Fiat Doblo has a large boot when back seats are folded down.

If this fails me, I can borrow my brother's Iveco high-top van! Smile

Ah, forgot about the rear seats. You can fold the middle and make it a "luxurious" 4-seater with more leg room than an Audi A6, and still have enough space for loads of luggage. The extra height and high driving position are great too as mentioned before. Can't say I ever had a problem with the blindspot in the front right pillar. Too many drivers are reluctant to move their heads when approaching junctions or roundabouts etc. They think their heads just pivot from left to right. I'm constantly moving my head position to see what's ahead before leaving a junction. Maybe it's because I'm used to being on 2 wheels aswell.

I agree the boot is a bit disappointing. For me it's not so much the overall size of it that's a problem, more that the shape is awkward.

Echoes my thoughts exactly . Before this we had a Passat and it was rubbish compared to the various Mondeos we've had.

We recently bought a 2000 plate mondeo, I had forgoten how good that version of the mondeo is, rides well, stears well, comfortable, and refined as well as having plenty of space.
