Personally, I think this photo is unsuitable for this website, adult tagged or not.
www.ephotozine.com/photo/652796
But having pointed that out I was instantly jumped on and patronised by poochie and insulted by cameracat. All rather predictably. Apparently it has "every right to be posted".
Presumably part of the photographer's intent may have been to provoke debate, so since I'm neither dead, asleep nor a prude, as has been suggested, and since I'm big enough and ugly enough to take part in a debate even if I think the photo that starts it goes beyond what is suitable here, I thought I'd ask the question:
If I'm wrong and this is within the remit and bounds of taste promoted by this site, then what wouldn't be? what could we get away with by calling it art?
Danny
I am with the should not have been posted brigade, could not make out if they were covered in blood or other nastier substance.
I should not have been able to view because I have adult turned off, but got curious, it seems cut and paste over rules this.
Edit,
Is it legal, could you print it in your local paper?
Horse, do you mean a photograph of anything legal shold be allowed? That leaves a lot of stuff open that many people may think was too much.
And who's laws do we use? The internet is global. Do we use UK laws because it's a UK site, and nuts to the rest of the world. Or do we take the most liberal in the world for whatever subject matter we happen to be shooting? Or the most restrictive?
I would not want to see provocative photography such as this censored. I would be interested to see some comments by the photographer on what he was trying to achieve - but I suspect it would result in some unpleasant reactions. The photographer has a right to let the photo stand on its own without comment but in a photographers' forum some discussion would be interesting.
I'm not sure where the line would be drawn to make something pornography, and whilst there is a fetish element to this picture it seems designed to make you think rather than to create sexual arousal.
Brett
The problem with individuals who choose to apply thier own version of censorship, For whatever reason, Is that they are usually the ones who make the most noise, If you don't like something fair enough, Thats your right, You have said so with a comment on the image in question.
So now it's time to move on and look for something else that you do OR don't like.
AS for the image thats has sparked of this silly post, What you see and what you personally percieve is your translation, It's your preconceptions that you need to challenge, Not the image that triggered it.
I'm suprised that you have taken my comment on the image as insulting to you at a personal level, But this just highlights the fact that this is your translation, And not mine.
This is like those pics of digitally done 'Crucifiction' and 'Last Supper' published in digital photography magazine few months ago.
If it is not for you, then look away. Why view it and want to stop someone else (who has no problem with it) to view it?

Speechless.... can you print any nude pics in your local paper?
Cameracat. Nice way to abdicate responsibility for anything you say or do. "It's not my fault - you interpreted it wrong". You seem to have quite a few preconceptions of others and translation issues of your own. Are you able to look at those with what you consider to be the clarity you judge my comments by?
Horse. I disagree. There are plenty of things any of us can do legally. And I'm not saying they shouldn't be published anywhere, just that some places are more appropriate than others.
This thread isn't intended as a Viking bashing excersise. He has some interesting shots, many of them borderline. Some of them I like, some I don't. I am not sitting here mourning for Mary Whitehouse and looking out of my twitching curtains for people showing too much ankle. With the level of disagreement, I was interested in what the consensus and extremes of view were.
I don't see what's offensive about the picture, perhaps I am missing some hidden message. It seems a rather better image than the vast majority that are posted. Maybe it is the fact that it's a decent, strong picture that makes it controversial?
I'm off for the grand prix now too ![]()
One other thought on the "legal" argument though; by extension, the argument is that photos of illegal things shouldn't be allowed. That would rule out pictures of 9/11 or the recent Glasgow airport thing. If you took a long exposure of traffic, you would have to be sure that none of the passing vehicles were exceeding the speed limit. Clearly pretty daft. But that's why I'm not sure legality is really the talking point.
[good luck Lewis]
I don't particularly care for the image, but its got the adult filter on it, and just like the telly - if I see something I don't like I move on........
Not everybody will like the same thing... why can't we just get along side by side and agree to disagree?

It's illegal to publish obscenity. It's not illegal to publish photos of crime.

Yes, not full frontal (some have come close) but topless images appear very often, why the comment should make you speechless I do not know.
In my opinion the image is pornographic, tasteless and does not merit even a second look hence the newspaper comment.
You may not agree with my opinion but I am entitled to it.
