Well the Canon G series are all excellent, so you could go for the latest model (G15?) though the focal range isn't as high as on the G9 (in '35mm' terms 35-210 on the G9, 28-140 on the G15). To be honest, if she wants a camera to fit in handbag/large pocket it is hard to beat the G series but it may be worth noting that the Canon S110 has the same sensor as the G series and is smaller. But if you take the view of upgrading means a significant improvement in performance, I think you would be looking at micro 4/3 with either a 14-42 (equivalent to 28-85 on a 35mm body) or 14-140.
Just one question: does she want an upgrade or are you wanting to get her an upgrade?

To be honest it is me wanting to do it for her because of what I have put her through with my sudden health situation.

I can understand that feeling, and if she lies the G9 then maybe the G15 is the best upgrade (if you go to DPReview you will be able to find reviews of each model and see how they have developed). If you think she may like having a changeable lens camera with the G9 as back up for a 'pick up and go' option then your horizon widens a bit.

Really appreciate your comments. I'm not going to worry about cost so which lenses should I go for with the Oly. OMD? Should I stick with WEX?

Regarding my wife. She really likes to Canon G9 because it does not involve changing a lense. Again I am not going to worry about price, i think i paid about 450 for the G9 at the time, just get her a modern camera with an improved performance than she gets from the G9. Best options at the moment please guys.

Mike

Lens choice can be quite a personal thing, do your prefer primes or zooms.

If your not worried about cost, this is what I would choose.

Zooms, 7-14mm, 12-35mm, 35-100mm or

Primes, 12mm, 17mm, 25mm, 45mm and 75mm.

I've always used both type of lenses happily. Is this a mixture of Olympus & Panansonic lenses Paul?

The zooms are Panasonic. The primes are Olympus except for the 25mm.

Yes a mixture from both Panasonic and Olympus, I just listed the highest grade lenses from each.

That's great. Thanks. I bet you have got some great results with your kit since you bought the Oly. Would love to see some.

The best results come with using proper profiles.

And there are no bad M4/3 lenses, they range from good to extremely good.

I have some in my portfolio but I haven`t been uploading a great deal just lately.
