I could never quite understand Flickr. Despite having had an account that I don't really use, for years, it always seemed to somehow, just pass me by.
I saw the changes last night however and having just looked at Stuart's front page, I'm quite impressed.
Mine looks nothing like that at the moment but I reckon I'll have to start uploading some stuff.
There's a pretty good 'critique' group running on there too.

I have a free account and I must say the changes are really fantastic, I was very surprised.

I'm not a fan. The design is just too 'in your face' with all the images crowding together and shouting for attention rather than being discreetly surrounded by white space. It's really ugly.

Looks good at first glance, but when I start actually using it and looking through pages, it's hard work, the screen is too full of not many images and no spacing.

I`ve had an account there for a number of years, it can be a little overwhelming at times.

A word of caution though, there are some very strange people on there, more so than here Smile

. . . you should take a look around "deviantART" then!

Quote: Or you could just open 2 accounts and get it for free!

At a 200MB/month upload limit are you prepared to wait for the 830 years it will take you to fill your account up?

The other thing that interested me was that Marissa Mayer (flickr CEO) has announced that there are no professional photographers now. I wonder what Rankin, Testino and - dare I say it - Amanda de Cadenet (I'm trying to cover wide ground) would say to that.

I'd watch their terms and conditions very carefully (and those of tumblr), this isnt just a revamp for the sake of it Wink

cynic mode off

I'll be stripping out flickr and removing it as a feeder for my websites (which are being revamped anyway). I'm signing off 'easy life updates'. Back to total control, signed up to ipernity.com and the bank holiday weekend will be spent backing up the already backed up from external HD to DVD.

You really can't trust anything online unless you own it.

I just saw that quote a few minutes ago

“There’s no such thing as Flickr Pro today because [with so many people taking photographs] there’s really no such thing as professional photographers anymore,” Mayer said

You'd get that on any photography site Kev.

I dare say there are lots of photographers using Flickr or deviantART to showcase photos of garden birds or nuclear landscapes who get just as many requests from people that like garden birds etc.

You just happen to appeal to a less obvious group of people.

I don't think you understand, let's just say I was suddenly being invited to share my pictures on pAges with guy dressed in boots, whip and very little leather clothing. And getting hundreds of invites.

Hehe Smile

I added this picture of my 14 year old daughter and later I got a notification that some member had added it to his favourites.

Out of curiosity I clicked on the link and went for a look.

To say this guy had a balloon fetish was a bit of an understatement, the album was filled with balloons, but not just balloons, girls wearing very little and doing all kinds of stuff with balloons.

I wouldn`t really go so far as to say it was pornographic but it did not leave a great deal to the imagination.
