    thats correct.
But how much is 1Ds MK III? and how much is D3?

*I just realize that we are way out of topic...Smile

Quote: With Nikon D300 and D3 so hot at the moment, if Canon does not release anything new and good soon, thats not going to be good, IMHO.

Canon did have some very strong releases recently - the 1Ds3 and 40D. There problem was that the Nikon 300D slightly trumpted the 40D (all be it a higher price point), and the news of Nikon going full frame overshaddowed the 1Ds3.

Canon are doing fine, its just that we were used to see them with a technology lead, and now the market has caught up.

Quote: What is the equivalent of canon to Nikon D3?

The frame rate and pixel count of the D3 piches it against the The 1D mark 3 (£2589).

You could try ebay under Canon Outlet.
There are Canon factory refurbished or simply box opened pieces of kit and come with a Canon warrenty.
I bought a 70-200mm F2.8L IS lens last year and it was perfect. I think it must have been at a trade show or something as it was as good as new and still wrapped in plastic.

don't bother, I would say regarding Canon Outlet in Ebay, lots of times, it gets more expensive than new ones.

A 5 mk2 or 6d might cost £2300+ just like the 5D did when new, what would tempt existing 5 users to part with them, or people contemplating a £1200 5D to go for a newer model

I think that Nikon's recent successful launch can only be excellent news for consumers as Canon will really have to pull their socks up e.g problems with the 1D MkIII.
Quite a lot of pro togs are jumping ship from Canon to Nikon which IMO is shortsighted as sure as eggs are eggs Canon will trump them and the leap frog game will go on.
I also hope that Canon will learn from the D3 and not pile on megapixels unnecessarily.
For me I shall struggle on with the stuff I have Smile

yeah problems with the mk3 but it was so far ahead in technology that you expect a few problems, then Nikon had probelms with the Nikon d2x , and problems may come out with thhe d3 camera when it has been in the field
    a while.
too many people rushed to buy the mk3 when the mk2 does everything they need in most cases

I wonder if Ken rockwell will give up the 5D now? I expect so.

Bit of a crude comparison, if you look and what they have in common rather than where the range ends then its 1D vs D3.

But as the OP wanted the cheapest price for a 5D, then comparing much more expensive pro-spec cameras is a bit pointless.

Quote: Anyone know the cheapest place to buy a Canon 5D body only?

I got mine from Hong Kong via EBay - no problem and it was €1000 cheaper than retailers in Ireland (where I live).

Are you sure you don't mean €100 ? The DR price is only £80 cheaper than the ePz shop, not enough to make buying a grey import worthwhile.

I got mine for a hair over £1000 three weeks ago, combining RGB's prices with the Canon discount offer.

I'm not fussed about the long awaited upgrade - the 5D does everything I need it to! I don't need things such as live view or self cleaning sensors. In fact, I can't think of anything the 5D doesn't do that I might need... Well perhaps the 39MP of a digital back would be nice!
