What do you mean by LR " will only work " and "computer hard drive and Lightroom won't work"
It could be that LR still thinks your images are on the external hard drive and cannot therefore find them.
If you move an image outside of LR, say with Explorer, LR will not know where it has gone. Changes should always be made via Lightroom.
What is "tethered capture" . Damian
Shooting with a camera connected to a computer.

Have you sorted out the original problem ?
Tethered Capture is where you can control your camera from within LR...... only works with certain cameras, I guess the high end Nikon / Canon models would be suitable for that.
What is Auto Import ?
But if LR is not working it is not going to be of much use to you
I have imported pictures from my camera no problem, but still wont import from external hard drive. Lightroom is working fine. More confused than ever .
Go to the Import screen from "Library" and select your photos on your computer's hard drive and import them to LR's Catalog otherwise it can, see them.
Earlier, you said that will ONLY work from the external hard drive. Now you say it STILL WON'T import from the external hard drive. Which is it?
If the problem is that you have already imported the images into the Lightroom catalogue then moved their actual location, it will show the preview images but then be unable to open them until you tell Lightroom where to find them in their new location. If this is the case, there is a question mark top right (I think) of the preview image that, if you click on it, it will ask you where to find that particular file. Just follow the instructions and it will then be able to be worked on.
If this is not the problem, please describe in more detail what is happening and somebody may be able to help you.

I do not understand what you are doing here.
You cannot import from a camera into a LR catalog.... only move ( NOT recommended ) or copy them to a location ( hard drive ), then import them into a LR catalog.
I think he means he imports from his card that was in his camera into lightroom
I'm as confused as others as to what the problem is, Daffy so I am going to try and cover all bases here, so if I have covered something you have thought of so be it:
if you want to use LR import your photos you need to use the Import and 'Copy' command. LR will then copy the photos from the card to your chosen directory and add the images to the catalogue
Alternatively you can use Windows Explorer to copy the images to your selected directory. You then use the Import\Add command because the images are already on your chosed directory and all you want to do is add them to the catalogue
If you already have images on your chosen directory and are already in your catalog, and if you then use WIndows Explorer to move them to another directory (eg from external drive to internal hard drive) LR will lose track of them and you need to point LR to where the images are and it will find them.
I would be interested to know why you have moved your photos from extenal disc to internal hard drive. I find it vey useful to have them on the external drive so I can then view them on my desktop or laptop.
