Salesmen will try to convince you that you will save a lot of money but last year, after talking to a Lyson salesman, I carefully calculated the cost of running CIS v sticking with the expensive Epson cartridges over a 5-6 year period. The most critical thing you need to know is how much ink you use a year. I regularly enter Club, national and international competitions and print about 70 near A3 prints per year. The calculations showed that using Lyson CIS, it would be the 4th year before I made a saving but this assumes that your printer does not fail and there are no other problems. If the printer failed before the 4th year, it would actually cost more to use a CIS system because of investing in ink that you may not be able to use later. Of course someone printing much larger quantities than me may well benefit but, if I was in that position, I would use a professional commercial printing service which would be even cheaper.
