Strange world. People who baulk at paying £600 for full PS would probably think nothing of spending that much (and more) on a new lens - which they might not even get nearly as much use out of...

FWIW...PSE10 is more than anyone other than a pro will need. Most people will never use all the options on it.

As for so-called textspeak writing, many do find it extremely irritating. IT's OK for short messages on a mobile but to not use proper punctuation on the forums is down to sheer laziness. It doesn't take much of an effort to use capitals, commas and fullstops. Far less effort than trying to read it.

Photoshop is incorrectly titled really, it makes people think it's aimed at photographers mainly when most photographers only us a fraction of it. Mind on the price side I know many people who use it in the design world who think it and the whole CS package is over priced.

I use CS5 and think it is worth every penny. However I advise my clients (mostly keen amateur photographers) to buy PSE10 (or whatever is the latest) as it has everything they will need.

Keep text speak for texts (and even then it annoys me)!

If I remember correctly it was initialy a program for designers that welcomed some photographic tools.

I used PS4 for a while but found i didn't really need most of it. As an editing software Its predominately aimed at graphic designers and not photographers. This is where elements comes in. I currently use Apples Aperture 3 for 99% of my editing and i have Elements 9 as a plugin for one or two things that aperture can't do.
The same set up for a PC would be to use lightroom as your main editing software and have elements as a backup/plugin. I'm a pro photographer and started my training back in the days of film. I can't see why any photographer would need the full version of Photoshop. unless you were producing graphic designs or something along those lines.
The only other reason to own it could be your making up for something. a bit like putting the biggest lens on your camera when your just out on a family day trip. we have all seen them.

Our reason for buying or upgrading Photoshop is to get the facilities that we need. It's a tool and if Elements would do the job, then we'd get it. No customers and very few friends are ever allowed into our workroom so it can't be a matter of showing off.

Before anyone forks out for CS6 check that your graphics card is supported - here. Mine isn't supported.

I've installed the trial to have a play but it crashed when I tried 3D text and also when I tried the 'adaptive wide angle' filter. Not that I'm bothered, I won't be adding to Adobe's coffers any time soon.

BTW - what's all this talk of textspeak? gazlowe wasn't using textspeak, just no punctuation. A friend of mine has severe dyslexia and couldn't string a sentence together to save his life but is a whizz at mathematics, so I think it's best not to judge people by how they write things on (totally unimportant) internet forums when you don't know their circumstances. And that was a long sentence. And I know you shouldn't start a sentence with 'and'..... Smile

Textspeak or "just no punctuation" is the same thing. People tend not to use punctuation when writing textspeak either.
I know the OP doesn't have dyslexia as he spelt the words correctly. He was as I said, being lazy.
On another forum where I am a mod we have a regular poster who has severe dyslexia and he uses a huge amount of time to compose just a very short post. All of us who know of his problem (most of the regular contributors) use a lot of time to read, interpret and reply to what he writes because we know how much effort he puts into writing a post.
