I've been too busy to do any serious photography for about 5 years, so I'm finally and reluctantly going to sell most of my better kit. I will be putting it in the classifieds on ePHOTOzine, but wanted to put P&P cost so there are no surprises either way. I'm astounded at the cost of insurance! For example a Sigma 50-500 where I'm asking for £500; the postage is any thing up to £88! Parcel force is £22:70p which sounds low by comparison, but even that seems extortionate...

...Do none of the courier companies have confidence in their ability to get a parcel to its destination unscathed?

Does anyone know of anything guaranteed and cheaper?

    Colin

For a package weighing 1.5kg and value of £500.00, Royal Mail is £9.05 for next day delivery.

AFAIC any postal service has a cheek asking value and types of items , they should be delivering the same service regardless. And just for info just because you dont pay for higher insurance doesnt stop you claiming for it , i had a parcel lost which was insured up to 30 and it cost 60 when they lost it i sent them the ebay receipt and demanded payment in full, and they paid. Pay them to deliver the parcel and dont unless its massively expensive worry about the contents...

Well don't know of anything cheaper, but you'll just have to say on the advert how much the postage will be. That's what I've always done & people are usually ok with it, those that have questioned have been pointed in the direction of the royal mail website & have come back & said ok.

    Hi Roger,
I did - they came out £1 or 2 above Parcel Force by the time it was insured.

The highest insurance myhermes go to is £250, else I'd use them... As far as I can tell, on the cheaper items they will be running similar rates to Parcel Force; I will check it out - thanks.
