Hi has anyone else on here found this with their Sony 18-200 e fit lens on their nex cam lens, I have had the lens a week now and if I lean forward to take a pic the lens drops out to full length, I think at a price tag of £650ish it is really not good enough and will have to go back.
I just wondered if this was a problem or is it worth me trying another one, reading some reports on the web I think it is a non starter with me and I will have to change to the 55-210, not what I wanted as I didn't want to have to change lenses what a faf

This topic has 'crept' up quite a few times (sorry 
). It is a problem that happens with nearly all the big zooms. I have the Nikon 18-200 and I've sent mine back once before. You can either keep sending it back under the warranty and hope it goes within 12 months or you will have to pay to get it fixed or put one of these round it like I have and probably most big zoom users!

Hi Charlotte,
Mine does the same if I hold the body with two hands and point the lens down, but I never hold it that way in use. The normal grip is to hold the body with your right hand, and have the left hand cradling the lens for support. That way, you're effectively controlling the zoom ring with your thumb and finger and creep isn't a problem.

I have a Tamron 18-200 which I bought with my S3Pro a few years ago. I hate it. Lens creep? Lens sprint more like. Soft, slow, noisy, hateful.
Doesn't it have a lock?
Both the Sigma 18-200mm that I used to have and my current Nikkor 28-300mm lenses "creep". It is perfectly normal which is why the manufacturers provide a lens lock to engage when you are carrying the camera with the lens pointing downwards.
Yes it had a lock which is fine for transporting it around but when you are taking flowers and pointing down it just drops forward that is of no use at all to me. I am looking at the Sony 18-250 to replace it, it is a lighter lens and might work well with it the only thing missing is the oss so I am just thinking about it at the moment. Sony have a new 18-200 e fit coming out in about a month I might wait until then and see what that is like, they say it is smaller and lighter perhaps that will be better

Hi Charlotte,
An update on my earlier reply......we were in Kew Gardens yesterday, and the temperature was way up -(sweat running into my eyes!). Not a trace of creep !
It would seem that the lens has been designed to allow for expansion with heat, so in cold/mild conditions you get a slightly loose zoom action, but when the temperature rises it stiffens up.
I rarely use mine on a tripod, but as you do, the comments I made about cradling the lens with your left hand wouldn't suit you.
For what I use it for, it's a lens I wouldn't part with as the results are brilliant, but maybe for your work it's a no go.

Hi Roger Thanks for your reply/update my lens didn't just creep it dropped out, I hand hold most of the time and it was really annoying, I like to take pics in the hot and cold so your findings in the heat are fine but when it is cold it would drop out no use to me at all I will wait until the new one comes out and try that I have been told it will be smaller and lighter perhaps that will be better

Just found the new Sony 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 OSS LE Lens advertised on Wex and ordered it could be a long wait but I don't mind if it is worth it
Whist I am here can someone please explain what the LE stands for in the description of the lens, the new one has LE after it but the old one does not, just wondered
