Canon will be announcing their successor to the EOS 5D, the EOS 6D, it's erm going to be an SLR, and will be available sometime, and will have the Canon name on it, it's going to have a Canon lens mount and will be better than the EOS 5D. More info will be found on the Canon web site when it comes available. We asked a spokesperson to confirm this but they would not comment.
Hi Pete,
"a very clever way of knowing absolutely nothing"
Uh, thanks for the 'very clever'! ;>)
It is true that there is little actual info out in public about any new version of popular software. Adobe makes a real effort to keep most of the news under wraps until they are ready to announce Photoshop CS5. (Yes, we make the assumption that there will be a Photoshop CS5!)
What I have been doing here is collecting whatever is released to the public, such as when Adobe 'persons-in-the-know' reveal something in an interview, or in a demo. They do actually reveal things about the new technologies (search my site to see the Russel Brown posts, the new video GPU developments, and Content Aware Technology posts.) I can link these if requested.
I keep up on the latest info, and I have a few sources that are somewhat less visible in general.
In the past, as the expected time of announcement approached, I'd be asked by students and colleagues about each detail and rumor that they came across re: New Adobe Photoshop CSxxx. It was tedious (for them and for me) to plow through everything.
I see my role as a teacher and a serious photo enthusiast, at this time, to collect everything in one place. Since I update the post whenever anything else becomes available, people seem to like having a place to go for the latest news about Photoshop CS5.
Thanks for the opportunity to respond. I'm obviously new to your site, but I really like the 'friendly' tone and intent of the site.
Cheers,
Ken

Sorry about the need to remove links.
There was a button which said 'Insert Link' and I always do what I'm told! 8>)
Cheers,

No problem welcome to ePHOTOzine Ken, we do like to think we're a friendly bunch (if you weren't being sarcastic).
I'm sure you're doing a grand job, but that page, although full and (on the surface) impressive, was not newsworthy. We could all do that and create pages about just about anything that we know will be coming from cameras to printers to software. But doesn't it just lead to false hope when someone stumbles on it from Google?
No doubt, as things become unearthed (assume early next year), you'll be able to flesh things out but at that time we'll all be doing the same too.
Good idea that you monopolise now because visitors will no doubt click the links and go elsewhere in search of news, but I'd feel cheated, which is why I responded to the original post.
Hope you stick around and let our members know when you unearth some news ![]()
Hi Pete,
"we do like to think we're a friendly bunch"
No, I wasn't being sarcastic. I meant it.
I've been a long time participant in many photo fori, and not all of them have a supportive tone.
I'm really sorry to hear that you feel cheated. Feedback on the post (Comments and emails) have all been positive. Anyone who followed such PS releases in the past will already be aware that little is known early on.
I really wanted to provide a place for actual straight info as a counterpoint to the rumor mills. The only thing I included that isn't 'fact' is the conjecture about the release date. I have mixed feelings about including that item, but everyone keeps asking, so I succumbed and added it.
As far as I know, everything else is accurate, if somewhat unsatisfying this early in the development cycle. If you know any better sources of info other than the Adobe items I've cited, I'd love to know.
I still feel that having things collated in a single URL can be helpful and informative to people.
Thanks,
Ken
