does anyone know when the new replacement for the nikon d700 will be here. What improvements are they likely to make?

not announced as yet...guessing video@1080p...minor refinements i.e. 300/300s..2nd quarter this year.

My guess would be the price, It will be improved from around £1700 quid to somewhere around £2000 quid, Lauch price could be higher, They usually are....
Exactly what improvements are you looking for...???
Baring in mind that the D700 as it stands is a well rated camera, As it is.....!!!
Don't say Video, That is not neccesarily an improvement, An addition maybe, For those who are into moving pictures......

What improvements do you want to see to make you a better photographer?
(Is ANYTHING going to be done about those ruddy adverts on the right!?)
Just wondering really. I wonder how much the d700 will drop to??? if the price is right i may drop the d300s idea and go for the d700.

It would appear that our voices don't count for diddly-squat Graham...
General rules for buying a camera...
1. Short-list those which attract you.
2. Do your homework - the internet is a VERY powerful tool. Use it to your best advantage.
3. Filter the information the internet provides.
4. Make your buying decision based on budget and - ON WHAT IS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE.
5. Remember the over-riding - and absolute and irrefutable fact...
It is YOUand your photographic abilities and NOT the camera that makes the image.
The D300 isn't much cheaper now, than it was before the D300s was introduced.
So don't assume there'll be a big price drop.
The D7oo is due for an upgrade very soon, but the only difference to the original, so I have been told, is video capture and a price hike. Most photographers dont want this option, so I see it as an excuse to put the price up with a minimmum of effort on Nikons part.
do people really care about video?... not me... thats not what a dslr is all about. But i bet they have to do it to keep up with other brands.
The D700 is capable of video - but not very good quality!
Some cameras can be upgraded using iffy software off the internet - but installing it may be a bit risky!

I believe video capability is there for short video clips, the sort that could be used in new items, that press photographers would need to take. Think the format capture is motion jpeg, to enable any frame to be chosen as an picture image.
The limitations of the Sensor (for example, noise in low light) surely must be evident in video capture too.
Quote: Do people really care about video?...
Not if they have never used it - but once the facility is easily available (i.e. a separate device does not have to be carried) and they have tried it, they can often get hooked.
Then they come on here asking for video processing advice, because they have never done it before! (Which is fine, of course).
Nothing announced at PMA

Apart from Video I thought people wanted either
A) even better high ISO performance like D3S
B) The D700X with the 24MP sensor.
Of course no camera upgrade makes you a better photographer, but they can make it easier to get a job done
And the D700 its over a year old, its so past it, you need one with an extra letter. Those fashion accessories just have to be up to date. After all you need to be up to date with your gear when you wander about in your beard and sandals.
