Try this from Nikon UK http://www.europe-nikon.com/tmp/EU/2419865273/3760176746/2327365364/27184057/392...
Some f8 AF ability (seems same as D4), improved colour on the rear monitor, anti moire upgrade for the e version for NX2 promised.
For the finest 35mm format detail at low and medium ISO's in a reasonably sized and "affordable" package it seems market leader.
Is it as revolutionary as the D3 and D3s when first announced?
That's quick off the mark Len.
I will watch the "real" reviews with interest looks mightily impressive. Tho I note the smallest aperture used in any of the examples wher Exif is present is F8. So I will look for info on defraction.
When prices settle I could well be interested - particularly for pano's as it would negate the need to stitch, as you will get 18mp.
Yeah, it looks like reports of the death of the MP race were exaggerated. It does look good value for a Nikon.
Didn't read all the tiny print. Did anyone see a release date or a price?
Looks like they are aiming for a very significant differentiation between the D4 and the D800 (How long until a D4s appears with the D800 sensor, or maybe a D800s with the D4 sensor?) They are giving users a real choice between excruciatingly high Megapixels or excruciatingly high ISO.

D800: £2399.99 / €2829
Sales start date: 22nd March 2012 (TBC)
D800E: £2689.99 / €3171 (selected retailers only)
Sales start date: 12th April 2012 (TBC)
MB-D12: £379.99 / €448
The epz review suggests the D800 will 'sit alongside the D700'. If so, its not really the 'replacement' that everyone was expecting. I can't imagine they'll be selling many D3x's from today.
I think the second hand value of D700's will remain strong as not everyone one wants 36MP or Video (myself included).
Its a great price, particularly when it drops in a few months time. I thought it would cost quite abit more than the £2399 reported.

They ALLWAYS say the new model will 'sit alongside' to outgoing model. That's just marketing spiel for 'it's being replaced'.

My take on MP count of the D800 is tha Nikon did to to purposly differentiate between the D4 and D800.
The D800 will provide a higher resolution... but Nikon is not going to sell you a camera with D4 high ISO ability for half the price. Perhaps Nikon found this didn't work with the D3 and D700 - after all there was no D700s.

It depends plenty of people have thought full frame of @ 36mp is a fair target, does not mean its as sensible for a crop camera
If you read the blurb it is clear they are aiming at medium format (film) image quality. Nice one Nikon. I guess to get advantage of the new sensor you need the top lenses etc.
I will be intrigued to see how users manage to balance diffraction v's resolution when using it. It will also be interesting to see how the existing lenses fair under such scrutiny. But it make more sense to have more resolution on the top cameras as users are more likely to buy the lenses to match.
the camera makes sense D4 for best low ISO performance D800 for best resolution. Next a D300 update for users with big desires but smaller wallets
Cole if you are going Nikon fancy selling me your 5D MKII ??? ![]()
Congratulations to Nikon!
For keeping amateur togs enthused about any new model coming out.
Not everyone is able to even dream about purchasing for example the Pentax 645D, however good it may be.
Even though I'm firmly a Canon user, I don't ignore looking at any new camera that comes out - they're all worth looking at.
I admit, I'm surprised that Nikon have even dared to come out with a 36MP camera - I think it's a brilliant idea, and a poke in the eye to all competitors!
Anyways, being full frame sensor, how high can the resolution go? Does anybody really care? I don't- the more the merrier!
Look at Porsche - even they have go a 4 door car!!![]()
