I'd rather they'd produced a D700s type camera. Perhaps with the D3s sensor or something similar. I can't see me (or most amateurs) needing 36mp. Personally, video is not an appeal on a DSLR. That said , I can see the marketing sense of differentiating their FX camera's. If I lost my D700 tomorrow, I'd probably buy another one and use the extra £1000 on some glass. Second hand mint D3s's are little more than a D800.
That said , I don't think there's any doubt that the D800 is going to be a massive seller...
Has anyone seen the latest from fake Chuck Westfall Normally they put the boot into Canon, but not this time. Anyway sit back and have a laugh not certain there are any serious facts in it, apart from how many internet forum behave.
Quote: On the unknown high noise performance Nikon UK seem to be saying it rivals the D700 - if confirmed an outstanding performance for the MP.
Whether this means before or after allowing for the extra detail 36 MP should resolve remains to be seen.
I'd guess that Nikon are saying that images of the D700 and D800, when suitably resized, exhibit the same noise levels. They're probably being fairly conservative. The D800 will probably be better most of the way up the ISO range until it gets to stratospheric levels (12800 and up). If the D800 can match the D700 pixel for pixel then that will be really amazing.
Strawman, the fake Chuck Westwood knows about as much about cameras as the real one.

Who is Chuck Westwood, is it the ill conceived love child of Chuck Westfall the manager of the Camera Divison Technical Information Dept of Canon U.S.A, someone who pretty well knows his photography stuff and Westwood a fading radio 1 DJ known for pimping cars.
Mental image of someone rushing about grabbing peoples cameras and spraying them lurid colours, and fitting hifi systems into the camera.
I prefer to think of it as a funny side swipe at the hysteria (positive and negative) that a new camera brings. Lets see how the launch models work. I hope Nikon have made a good one.
