Nikita - The above says to make a coloured image into a B&W one.

The info from your link above suggests the other way around i.e a B&W image into a coloured image.

Which is right - or will a conversion either way fit the bill?

A scanned image of Olga at 15. Changed to CMYK. Each individual part of the image, i.e hair, eyes, blouse, face, lips etc were selected and saved as seperate curves layers. Each were then coloured by adjusting the curves layers one at a time until the desired colour is acheved.
