Today we are looking at photographing hay bales so get out there, find yourself a field and show us your shots.
If you're new to Photo Month you can find out more about it in the what is Photo Month forum.
..............you can even get silage bales (usually they are round and wrapped in black plastic!), which are made of grass which has not been dried! ![]()
I think it would be a bit pedantic to differentiate between them though................after all, a bale is a bale!
(De já vue - have we had this conversation before!)
For the sake of the subject we could just call them Bales ![]()

For farmers it's very important you would not want to feed cattle on straw. ![]()
.....I bet all the bales you see on this thread are "straw" rather than "hay ![]()
Hay making was the best time of teh year back home - when I was around 16-23 I used to work on every farm in I could, throwing bales for fun - by the end of each summer I'd have thrown tousands of bales and was as strong as an ox!
This sedentary "sitting on your arse in front of a PC" way of life has done me no favours - a good 5 stone heavier now than I was back then ![]()

Spot the ones done after lunch. Taken in France a few days ago. Unfortunately I couldn't go back to make the most of this location & the driver didn't want to stop for more than a few seconds so they were taken from the car.
