    Hi,

I am using a 20 inch Dell flat screen monitor plugged into my Dell Inspiron 9400.The screen is more than 5 years old and I have noticed some faint dark lines appearing in different positions after the laptop has been running for 30 minutes or more. Browsing the net for a solution has not been successful so I am wondering if it has reached the end of it's life. The problem is very prominent when I'm using PS and I am aware that I'm not exactly seeing a clear picture as I should. It's steadily been getting worse over the last couple of months so any help would be appreciated before I decide to get rid of it.
    Regards,
    Geoff.

Before scrapping it, plug it into a different PC just to check that the problem does not lie in the video card of your existing machine.

Yeah overheating or failing video cards produce exactly those sort of symptoms. Do as Eric suggests and test it on another computer.

Just to be shure, check the cable, change it. In my expirence is either cable 95% or it is GPU on your laptop.
I hope its cable, much cheaper, GL Smile

Hoping to check this out over the weekend but if it's the GPU..........is this something I could replace considering I've never opened a laptop before ??

Had the laptop running for about an hour so that it was warm this morning and the dark lines got so bad I couldn't work in PS. Left the laptop running and switched off the screen for 2 hours to let it cool down..............bingo!!!.........no dark lines but need to now try the screen on another computer.........very time consuming but I will get to the root of the problem eventually Sad
    Thanks for the help guys.
