Do you have any experience with TOR?
A friend offered me a new software for my protection. It is called Tor.
I Googled it and find the following information about Tor.
Not sure how useful this would be for me.
Do you have any personal experience about this software? If so, please write me pro/con of this program for me.
    Thanks

It depends on what you want it for. Does it hide what you do online? Yes, if configured correctly.

The main drawbacks of Tor would be that it can and does slow your networking down as everything is 1, encrypted, and 2, you might be using someones Internet that is slow. You also need to make sure that your browser is configured correctly to work with Tor. Just using it as a normal proxy will hide your Internet traffic from your ISP and others who may be snooping, but your browser can still be telling people who you are. With javascript enabled, and accepting cookies, websites can still track you where you go.

Up side, you can hide what your doing, or if your in a country that does not allow you go to places on the Internet as readily as you currently can in the US (unless the SOPA law passes), then Tor is for you.

I currently use it on my laptop, my Xoom tablet, and my Phone. When I'm on an open wireless system I use it to hide/encrypt all my traffic.

You still have to encrypt your data! But sure it makes it impossible to find you! I think it's great
