Join ePHOTOzine for free and remove these adverts.

Do you get less adverts if you are an e2 Member? I don't know, but I don't get that many adverts.

It is always a balance between providing a free to use website with all of the features you expect - and being able to keep the business afloat.

The team do see these comments, and take on board your feelings.

If you sign up to E2 then you do see less adverts.

I suppose it depends if you want to pay for the site. There are still some ads if you have e2 but to be honest they don't bother me, neither did they before I had e2.
The site has to generate money somehow and I think the ads are better than making people pay.

I didn't know it had adverts - Adblock is your friend.

To be honest I don't notice the adverts. I would rather have adverts than have to look for another photo resource. Smile

    Yes.

But I don't see them with Firefox + Adblock Plus (Flashblock is good for any sites serving Flash adverts as well).

A commercial site like this may deem it necessary to host adverts for profit. However, if those ads become intrusive the clients/punters have the technology and the right to restrict them. I suspect that the numbers of people who do block the adverts is proportional to how aggressive/intrusive the adverts are. It's probably a vicious circle in that the advertisers try to make their adverts as noticeable as possible. That in turn makes them intensely irritating to the people using the site who then start blocking the adverts. It's a bit like the advertisers who increase the volume of the adverts on the TV in the commercial breaks. It just means that as a matter of course I always press the mute button on the remote when they are on rather than listen to the loud banal rubbish. Ultimately too much intrusive advertising is self defeating.

Adverts are mostly on the top and right panels (for E2 anyway), I don't think it is THAT intrusive.

I used to ad-block but I don't bother now....once you have seen them once your mind tends to phase them out anyway.

The question has been asked many times, and my answer is always the same as above, use Adblock. It's cheaper than e2, and a lot more effective. I've said before, perhaps my tolerance levels are low, but there is no way I could browse the site with all those flashing, scrolling ads. Looking at the number of downloads Adblock has had, I'm obviously not alone though. We all appreciate the need for ads, what I don't appreciate is the flash, in your face type. I'm convinced they are counter productive, I know on principle there is no way I would ever visit any of the advertised sites. For those that enjoy the ads, enjoy, you surf the way you want, and I'll surf the way I want.

Edit. Not quick enough! I see Henchrds post has arrived since I started writing, and I have said similar to him.

Not sure about e2 as I block all ads everywhere as a matter of course but I just opened EPZ up in I.E. and the flashing Panasonic ads and the Ebay ads are simply hideous. Just the sort of thing that means I always disable ads.

Every user has the technology to decide what they want to see. My view is use it - as I find adverts completely objectionable for a number of reasons - principally that they are not informative but that their main purpose is to be manipulative.

I ad-block them at home but at work I see them and they're fairly unobtrusive.

Rather have ads than pay a fortune each year Smile

But with E2, the Adds are just on the side, so they don't intrude too much.

    ...and pay for our enjoyment.
I know we all love to hate them - but how many are prepared to fund the site through subscription alone?

Apparently not, some are quite happy with them.

You can still have ads, just dump the intrusive ones. They never used to be this bad, I guess EPZ must get more revenue the more intrusive the ads are. And because some are intrusive, we end up blocking everything, even the unobtrusive ads suffer.

This is about the only site that I don't use adblock on - the ads are not intrusive, and are a lot more relevant than most ad-driven sites seem to be!
