But look at how good the 20D comes out.

Quote: With default image parameters ('image optimization') the D200's 20% megapixel advantage isn't obvious. In this comparison the EOS 20D appears to resolve at least as much detail with better 'per pixel sharpness'.

Quote: Turning up the in-camera sharpening to a level which better matches the EOS 20D brings the D200 very slightly out in front, while not a giant leap in resolution there are some areas of the image which exhibit finer detail. It's clear however that there's not a huge resolution advantage in moving from eight to ten megapixels.

I don't think you missed anything, this is a well know problem with FF sensors especially with wide angle lenses. This is the reason Leica have ruled out FF for the digital M.
FF is not the answer to all problems the Canon marketing people would have you believe.

But, also the 20D did much better in back to back tests than I expected. So 200D a little bit more resolution than 20D, but less than 5D.

    I know, i've 20D

about the FF - is this only a problem with digital like 5D or Mark 1D etc.?

FF film has been around for a while, i don't understand why it should be a problem now with digital. the same size, but the light hit the sensor instead of film. or does all 35mm film cames has the same issue with lens like 24-70mm 2.8 L ???

Rather selective editing, the D200 beats the 20D in many respects, a few of which have been adressed by the 30D.
The20D has no spot meter, lower RAW burst, and the Nikons viewfinder is far better, one could go on. OK for the current asking price the 20D is a good buy if you can live with the body ergonomics but IMHO the D200 is far and away the better allround camera than either the 20D or 30D.

You've used the 30D then, Tony?

Oh how they laughed when I said that (so-called) Full Frame was more likely to be ditched, in the long term, than (so-called) Crop.

Looking more likely every day! Wink

@Tonymidd. What's wrong with the body ergonomics of the 20D? I think mine is one of the nicest cameras i've used in 20-odd years, including my time with Contaxes.

This IS NOT a competition what IF 5D, 30D, 20D xxD is better OR NOT then D200 - every camera has it's own good stuff! like it or not, get it or sell it... read it for yourself and address your shooting needs. DONE.

please follow the original question about FF and lens, that's what's VERY suprising for me...

Sorry, could you point me in the direction of the picture that you found shocking??

I ask, because when I read through the D200 review, I was actually very impressed with the extra detail captured by the 5D

it's not about the detail/resolution of 5D - it's about how this lens behave on 5D or any other full frame (FF) camera.

it's horrible tunnel when wide open 2.8 and that's L lens!

Not wanting to get my matches out and coming from a rather non technical non brand affiliated background.

Could Canon have already decided this (I know they use different sensors) and that's why so many are dissapointed the 30D is still 8MP? After all, they have to keep the cost in the same bracket as the 20D. Plus the 8MP sensor was considered a good sensor when it came out.
