I've been a member of this site for a wee while now and enjoy it hugely. One of the main benefits is receiving comments on your own images and passing on encouragement and suggestions to others.

There's some great photography on this site and the editors choice cherry picks some top ranking stuff. Sometimes though images pop up with an EC and I find myself wondering why.....is that just me? Does anyone agree that it might be useful if the editor could leave a short crit of the pictures he has selected in the same way us ordinary bods leave one another feedback?. Nothing long winded just a few salient points.

Don't think he has time! But I'm sure there is a general justification for his choices somewhere, maybe in FAQ.

Actually, those shots are probably just people who bribed him a lot Wink

Pete sometimes does leave comments on ECs - particularly if they're unorthodox choices (which they rarely are).

Hi Guy, I see you have been with us since March, that's a wee while as you say, ( Oh and you have some Super uploads may I say ) But with regards to the EC's the editor as you can imagine is a busy chap, How he ever gets to see as many as he does is a miracle & mystery to me, My gues is that he has a criteria and that's that, I would say that if he gives an image an EC, there will be a sound reason usually because it is Good in whatever feild, It's up to us to also evaluate that image and then see what & why it caught his eye, This way we might also learn from it.

I personally don't have one and I have been about for a while, But then My upload are not that great or outstanding, They are to me a catalogue of Improvement.

If and when I upload something a bit special ( ha ha ) Don't laugh it could happen, Then I hope it's good enough for consideration.

Further to that Just because you don't get one, does not mean your Uploads are not up to much, Just keep plugging away and the " Blue Peter " badge will find you one day.

Sometimes it's not easy to express why an image is liked. Sometimes I don't have time, sometimes I feel I need to justify. Sometimes I want to enthuse. Rest assured there is never any personal bias/bribes/lack of integrity.

    edit: thanks Chris lol

    I agree.

One needs to take into 'mix' the fact that it's the Christmas season Guy and that amongst other editorial duties, Pete also needs to 'keep up appearances' and this also eats into time.

The problem is that it appears to be an 'all year round' thing...

I got an EC on one of my Kingfisher shot, and someone complained and Petes response was below...

Quote: I've just been asked to justify why this should get an EC.
I gave it an EC for these reasons:
It's naturally sharp - and not over processed
Natural colour - looks realistic and not over saturated.
Good out of focus background - not too blurred yet no distractions. Clear, harmonious colour.
Balance - bird placed on one of thirds makes good positioning.
Exposure - spot on - no bleached out spots good detail in shadow areas.
Contrast - well balanced not harsh.

Needless to say Despite the complaint I was well chuffed after all it had 68 clicks and 381 Views so maybe the complaint was right ? who knows...

I think if you uploaded a shot of a girl elf, as mentioned by Mike above and in another thread, that would certainly get Pete excited and earn you an EC for sure - LOL! Although Pete does look a little like a girl elf, so perhaps a boy elf would do the trick......

Crofts, I too realised some time ago there was no point leaving bribes in brown paper bags at anonymous park benches. He just doesn't go to Hyde Park.

I nearly got an HC a while back. It dangled in front of my eyes and then it was snatched away, like a bright fly on a hook. 8-] Mind you he had a point.

I don't mind. sniff I'll just sniff carry on doing the work I love ..gulp, snort and maybe one day a meagre offering of mine honkkkkkkkkkkkkk gulp will attract a glance or two uncontrollable sobbing

    8-]

is that my coat? Oh thank you. So soon? How ab...
