Paint Shop Pro will not support 50D .cr2 files as you have found. If you try it you will find that the canon DPP programme works very well in processing .cr2 files which you can then transfer to psp for further processing.

(There is a strong opinion at the moment that the DPP prog is the best for processing 50D files in respect of both colour and noise - I wouldn't disagree with that opinion from my experience)

The EOS utility programme is also a brilliant tool for using the 50D tethered to your computer , particulalry with a laptop and using Live View.

You can download these without having to have all the other (less valuable) progs downloaded from disc
