Fujifilm are the latest company to try and corner the 3D area of the photography market. We asked Tony Shapps, one of the leading authorities on stereo photography for his thoughts: Fujifilm's Real 3D W1 camera

So, what do you think? Will the camera have wide spread interest and succeed where others failed?

The technology of 3D images certainly looks like it's made an interesting new development. Of course, this all banks on the backing of consumers but with sites such as Flickr, Facebook and Twitter being so popular at the moment, the young, technology hungry users could be the ones to buy into it.
My main thought is how the images are viewed on a computer. Fujifilm have developed a viewer but it doesn't mention whether editing is possible. We also don't know if the images are viewable at all on a computer although it's unlikely given the viewer's existence.
I'm certainly looking forward to seeing a unit and I hope it takes off, photography could do with something like this to take it forward into the future.

No.

Quote:The FinePix Real 3D system incorporates a 3D digital camera "FinePix Real 3D W1", a 3D picture viewer "FinePix Real 3D V1", and 3D prints.

You have to buy into a system that steps outside photographic convention.

3D is fascinating - I've even posted one on here in the past and invited people to get their úD glasses out (there was a popular 3D movie out at the time so the glasses were everywhere Wink).

It always was, and always will remain, a niche market.

Kind of - i always see 2 images slightly miss-aligned. My brain is used to cancelling it out so 3D effects don't usually work.
