Thanks Ian I'd already gone in to add a link so now they have two to go from ![]()
We are continually improving the quality. Hopefully you will all enjoy this one more than the other two. And we hope you'll find time to view it as the team have put a lot of effort into making this better..
Please feel free to leave your comments on the video site rather than on this thread.
Just like to bump this thread and thank Conrad and Cole for their excellent reviews of the new show on epz.tv. We put a lot of effort into this and it's great to see useful feedback. ![]()

So I hope you won't mind some constructive critique? ![]()
When I tried to view the vid just now, it seemed very webcam-style... movement seems to be a series of jerks, even when the vid is 100% buffered. Which is a shame because the subject matter looks really interesting.
This may well be a server issue, if the video looks OK on your computer (for example). If it doesn't, then you may want to reconsider your compression and other settings. Feel free to PM me if you want any help with this. I do a reasonable amount of video for the web these days. ![]()
I saw several bad edits between cuts, but the only jerky stuff in main sections should be when the camera was handheld (in the bluebell shots for example) and looks like camera movement caused by unsteady hands. Otherwise it runs smoothly. I notcie that the player does run ahead of the download speed which causes jerks. The only way around this, at busy times especially, is to pause and let it get ahead in the download.
I thought the quality was pretty good, if a little jerky in places. The big problem is that the lip-synch is still way out, which makes it hard to watch.

Pete, I did say it was jerky even when fully buffered. And even when the video camera is on a tripod. So it is not just a case of the player running ahead of the download or the fact that the cam is sometimes handheld. Even the zooming is jerky-looking. The movement looks just like a webcam running at a low fps rate. And, as Rog says, the sync is totally out.
I'm sorry, but it is really a bit annoying to watch! ![]()
However, there are several of us on here with video experience, so I'm sure we can help to sort it out.
But I guess we'd better get some more comments in, before reaching conclusions as to where the problem lies.
I cannot believe that anyone thinks this runs smoothly. Might be better to set up an EPZ YouTube channel and put stuff on there, if this is going to be a continuing problem. (Last resort I know!
)
I have to agree with what CB says. There's something wrong with the encoding. Pans and zooms jerk. They are more like a series of stop motion animation frames than a smooth zoom or pan. It's not a buffering issue, it's not a player issue. It's an encoding issue.
It's fab that it exists, it's free, it's informative and I feel bad complaining.
You need to sort out the technical problem with the encoding (hopefully it's not a problem with the original footage)
The editing in the last one was hilarious, it was like watching Acorn Antiques on Victoria Wood. It hasn't improved in this episode. There's no quick fix to that, you guys need to swallow your pride and get someone in who can actually edit, not just someone who can use an editing program.
You were - but your movements are so jerky, Matt... has nobody ever told you that? ![]()

The editing doesn't need to be bang, bang, bang like MTV, or The Gadget Show (maybe if Pete put some funky 80's spectacles on you could get that kind of look)
Go to 01'.34", chop out everything 'til around 01'.41". Maybe put a fast wipe or slide in/out in place of the almost "dead air".
Viewers are capable of accepting time has passed from one shot to another, there's no need for it to appear real time.
You'd be the first people to condemn someone who bought a DSLR and a copy of Photoshop and thought "right I've got the gear, now I'm a professional photographer"
A video camera and editing prog unfortunately doesn't make you a TV programme maker.
