Quote: You were - but your movements are so jerky, Matt... has nobody ever told you that?
Jerk has been used in descriptions of me, yes. ![]()

Chris could you get this out of your head. It's not about us thinking we are brilliant, well apart from Matt, it's the budget restraints we have. We could have upped the quality by shelling out cash. I've had several offers, but we aim to keep it free and until there's decent traffic and add revenues we won't be spending the necessary amount to afford a dedicated team with camera crew, lighting engineers, sound crews and video editors that are luxuries that BBC, SKY etc, can afford.
Pete, I'm going to say this then shut up about it. Nobody has suggested BBC, Sky luxuries.
There's folks on here who are experienced editors and encoders who are happy to help out for free. Don't know why you don't take advantage of that.
Next time put a preview up and let a critique team have a look who can suggest a final cut?
I hate being negative about it because I love the concept and the content

A very good idea from Chris here.
Unprofessional imagery from the EPZ team does no favours for EPZ's rep. Just because it involves moving images doesn't mean it should look like a teenage skateboarder's mobile phone output! ![]()
The preview idea is a good one, until such time as the EPZ team has developed sufficient expertise.
Its nice to see the series develop, and each one is improving. Its reminiscent of some of the early cable shows, and has a great "home-grown" appeal that makes it unique, OK, it could be polished, and perhaps some of the members on this site could help, but by and large it delivers what it intended to do.I would dearly like to see more of the "Pete technique" in future shows, together with "shooting info" for the shots. I would also like to see content improved rather than "polishing" at this time.
I was going to shut up, but we're not even talking about polishing, just a quick dust round.
I love the home grown aspectl. I'd always rather see a less-polished genuine enthusiast talking about the subject, than a professional presenter pretending to know what they're talking about.
Can we have a bloopers / out-takes video please! ![]()
The content is very worthy - and worthwhile. It will no doubt improve as time goes on. ![]()
That's not the issue that Chris and I are going on about here. It is the delivery aspect which needs some work. A quick dust around, as he says. It needs to be watchable, from a purely technical point if view.
If it isn't then the numbers watching it will not be as great. The video lasts 29 minutes. Casual viewers will switch off after just a few if they are not drawn into it. There is research, on web video, which shows that anything over about 7 minutes is gonna have to be very good indeed to hold the attention.
One person's "dust a round" is the same as another person's "polish". Know what you mean though, and a "dust a round" would be good both in terms of presentation and content. Just wanted to make sure that content got the priority though, as sometimes its easy to enjoy the "polishing" ![]()
I agree Michael, but we are primarily talking about the purely techie aspects, encoding/rendering, bitrates, what format etc rather than the content. That's what needs a bit of dusting. ![]()
That said, the use of simple transitions and so forth can increase watchability without introducing an artficial glossy look. And the audio can easily be evened up.
I love seeing the EPZ staff in action.
I hope they will not be in any way discouraged by what are comments on the 'nuts and bolts' side of things.

Despite the smiley CB, that's a bit harsh!
The content is improving, and the tech side compared to episode 2. By the end of the year the team will be looking at these episodes and wanting to delete them in much the same way as still togs start out on here and improve beyond recognition in their 1st 12 months.
So let's keep the criticism helpful rather than hurtful! ![]()
Ian
Just watched ePhotozine.tv for the first time.
Did I miss something in eps.2. It says something like wildlife and falconry centre, all I saw was a butterfly house and a few dodgy bird shots from a hide with a 400mm. Thought I might learn something ![]()
Some good stuff, production quality not brilliant, but Pete's explained that.
Backgrounds could easily be sorted to look a bit more professional.

Why? They could be reprocessed and re-uploaded. I have looked at episodes 2 and 3 back to back and the tech side is much the same.

I have given Pete specific advice, off-forum.
Sorry to 'tell it like it is'!
But it is mostly to do with post-production.

Why don't you invite the ephotozine.tv team to come out with you, Cheryl, and turn things around: teach us, instead of others teaching you. I'll bet that it would make a very instructive and interesting item for many of us.
