Sony have shown they might be entering the "Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens" small compact market with a concept camera displayed at PMA 2010.

Small body and APS-C sensor could give Oly and Panasonic MFT something to think about.

The shape of things to come perhaps?

It was only a matter of time. Don't like the look of it though.Sad

Yep Mohican don't lke the design of their DSLRs either. Strange comming from a company that used to be the cutting edge of design and technology.

The shape is fine. Simple, functional, what we've been asking for.
But with the VF being an add on and no obvious method of using existing lenses, not so interesting. Not getting excited yet.

I suppose it's only a matter of time for cameras like this to come of age.

Digital technology is relatively new and as soon as they can do away with swinging mirrors and still deliver the quality we expect they will be onto a winner.

Quite agree about the old lenses problem though.

Could we see a return of the pellicle mirror perhaps?

Interesting times ahead if Sony throw their weight behind it with their experience in getting the best from sensors.

What with Olympus, Panasonic, Ricoh and Samsung going down a similar route I wonder if / when Canon / Nikon will add something to the party?

Not sure why you have labeled it "EVIL", cannot see any reference to that anywhere else !

As to the shape of things to come, what do you think about the lens being attached by magnets ?

And, with Sony's backgound, what about the quality of the video, which is also coming to a DLSR, yet to be named, but a replacement of the A700 ?

It's an interesting concept, and a funky looking camera - something that I'm surprised manufactures have not done years ago.

    Still I have some concerns:

No hotshoe? Didn't Olympus get critised for that with the first EP1?

No controls on top plate except for shutter - this must mean the camera is controlled via menu's on the back.

Is that a new lens mount? Will the lenses be compatable with the rest of the Alpha range.

Just how small will it be?

Now that you mention it Barry, I recall reading somewhere earlier this week about that Electronic Viewfinder feature.

There is a cover on top which I thought might hide the shoe, but on a closer look, that wouldn't work. Scratch this one then. Back to financing an M9 ... or back to film Smile

Careful Keith - someone might drive a nail through your pixels for suggesting going back to film Smile

I still use my old film gear from time to time - can't bear to get rid of it.

In fact I ran a film through my old original Olympus Trip a couple of weeks ago - loved it.

I never really stopped. But since digital is more convenient, and it has uses for work as well as hobby, film has become a sort of rare holiday treat.

JustJas and Keith - could I ask a quick film based question please?

I've just been given some Rollei Pan 25 B&W negative 35mm film. Use before Oct 2009. It was kept in the fridge by the previous owner and I have done the same.

Any knowledge or experience of this film please?
