    Hello,

I was looking into using Fastone for my photo editing.

It looks like it has a lot of features.

Does anyone know if you can do layers on it?

It was not so easy to tell when I reviewed it.

    Thank you

I find Faststone very useful for a free programme. It has many features but doesn't offer layers to my knowledge.. If you install the program then click on the "Help" button you can access a Tutorial cum instruction manual that shows all its features. The PDF version runs to 95 pages!
    Hope the info helps.

    Correct Rog.

FastStone's not bad for a freebie. I use it for a number of things but layers isn't one of them.

If you want layers (and a whole lot more) for free, have a look at this.

Quote: have a look at this.

As far as I can tell, it won't let you open files other than jpeg. In the Type of File Box, you can't select Tiff PSD etc.

    You're right Rog.
I was sure I've used it before now to work on Tiffs.
    Obviously not.

A very poor man indeed's photoshop.

Personally, I could never get on with GIMP, although, to be fair, it's been a long time since I looked at it.
    Perhaps it's got better.

I can open that window as well Chris but Tiffs aren't supported. When I tried to open one from a folder, the folder opened yet appeared to contain nothing.
I then tried a Psd. That opened a new window but the area where the image should have been was transparent ie. checkerboard.

I was sure though that I'd used Pixlr to work on some Tiffs a little while ago.

Yes, I get that but you can't actually select a file type.

I think Rog, that that list indicates the file types that it claims to support and that you'd have to save it as a particular one but when I tried (above) it didn't work.

Admittedly, I only tried Tiffs. and a Psd.

I LIKE FastStone Image Viewer -- it will open Pentax DNG RAW files that my PhotoShop 7 will not and it is very quick to downsize for e-mailing and forums.

    [Quopte]:No layers.
No, but you can link directly to another program that supports layers.
