Quote: Railcam - Paul - what flash did you use (if at all) with your F301?
I only needed a flashgun for photographing rally cars at night so I used a cheap, but powerful, manual Sunpak GX33. In those days it was a case of using the calculations with the Guide Number and open up 2 stops. No walls and or ceilings to reflect light when outdoors!
I later got an SB26, for the F4s, which is quite a brute. I am sure the SB18 will be fine.

I will have to resort to the calculations when I use it with the FE (no TTL) but at least the 'flash ready light' will work OK in the viewfinder eyepiece.
The table on the back of the flashgun makes it easier, though.
(SB-18 looks just the job - will try it out with the F301 tomorrow at one of my favourite haunts).
The 'World of Nikon' is new to me and I am enjoying exploring it as much as funds permit me to. ![]()
The Nikon bodies are a joy to use.
I am glad you like the FE. I have an FE with a cracked chassis (happened in 1986). My local professional repairer did a good repair (glued and braced) but it went again after a few more years of hard use so the shutter won't advance. That is when I got the F301.
The FE was a treat to use, the manual film wind on was a silky smooth action. Happy days.
I have a fully working FM2n, built to the same standards, but too frightened to use it in case I scratch it.
Managed to get the +1 dioptre eyepiece I wanted for the F301 from Amazon, it arrived this morning.
Also got a SB-22 flashgun from ebay. As it has a 2 stop light sensor, as well as TTL sensing, it means that I can use it on the FM and FE bodies as well.
I am well chuffed. ![]()

You still have to use up all the remaining shots. this is where digital score. Take the freezing of moving objects for instance. With digital you just look at the shot and decide whether to scrap it.
