Quote: Put the stuck filters in the microwave and if they are still stuck together... hit em with an Hammer!!
Then photograph the results as a warning to others ![]()
Quote: Wish I had a fiver for every time this tale of woe turns up. What I do is, take them off of the camera, place between your two palms press and turn left palm anti clockwise and right clockwise.
which would mean you are just turning the lens in your hand and not undoing it
and if you are not very strong (cant be or it would be off by now) then it wouldnt work anyway. ![]()

All that is in contact with the palms is the metal frames of the lens, not the glass![]()
Quote: A drop or two of WD40 or releasing oil - leave for a few minutes and then use the rubber gloves ..... should work a treat
LOL
Ok, when you want to add a filter a very small tip of vaseline (I mean small) on the thread, it stays on as a light coating, dont melt or go hard in extreme conditions, you just have to maintain it, use of the brain will tell you to be careful on the lens! (we used to use it to do soft focus around a sharply focused centre/point, in the old days, pre photoshop et al )
TIP: was supplied by the MOD (works for guns as well!) in cold conditions!
Has the OP mentioned whether they are still stuck together? Surley he's got it sorted by now.
Get a large Jubilee Clip and place around the filter. Obviously, make sure it's on the filter only and not gripping the lens.
Tighten. Gently grip and turn.
Never failed me yet - I carry a couple of Jubilee clips (and a screwdriver) in my kit.
At a pinch two smaller clips fastened together could be used. Tighten evenly on either side.
The secret is to grip the filter evenly all around so that it doesn't distort.
Ok. this is my method of unsticking stuck filters.
I found this method one day when my polariser got stuck and i was miles from home, i used my vinyle covered cable release, lined it up around the knurling on the filter, pinched the ends together and turned it...... the filter came off REALLY easily because the loading was spread around the whole filter![]()

I'm not sure i'd use this method, it's far too likely to cause damage and means you have to carry more stuff with you, try the method i mentioned above and i reckon you'll be leaving those jubilees at home in future ![]()

I don't carry a cable release - Nikon D300 DSLR, uses an electrical push button remote release.
That's modern technology for you
I also use a push button release with my Canon 7D but i also carry one of those old style vinyle covered cable releases (the really old one, like a bicycle cable....remember them
). It takes up little space in my bag, dosen't damage the filter and works every time ![]()
