    Hello all

Don't suppose anyone's seen a (fairly) in-depth review of the s9500 anywhere have they?

It's out now, although I don't think it's been out long to be honest. There's nothing proper on the interweb as yet (how long does it usually take dpreview to cover new releases?) so I'm wondering if anyone's seen one in a magazine.

    Long shot I know.

    Cheers
    Mark

Hi, there are two reports on the camera on www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Fujifilm/ People have got hold of one in the states and reported how they find them.

For myself I would prefer the Panasonic DMC FZ30, but as I have the FZ20 I am biasedSmile

    regards.

Yeah, read that one Merl, thanks. But it's a preview so not the finished article unfortunately.

What's interesting is that after you'd mentioned it I've seen the noise commented on in other places.

The trouble is that some of these 'user reviews' are basically users going off the spec - and perhaps they own a FZ20 and bring in some of their feelings on that - and really delivering a review on a camera that they've never actually used!

I'm currently experiencing something akin to a paper-chase...I'm now looking at the Sony Cybershot R1. At least I've managed to ditch the obsession with one camera though, instead replacing it with an obsession of several Wink

    Hi Ken, thanks, yeah I've read those...interesting but not quite enough is it :-}

The more I look around at various models the clearer it becomes that at the end of the day it's going to be a bit of a stab in the dark. s9500 has a great sensor but no image stabilisation but the FZ30 has IS but (supposedly) suffers from noise problems due to the amount of pixels on such a small sensor...

Why can't someone combine the 2!!!???? Wink)

It's not easy choosing is it, although I am fully aware that at the end of the day I'll be drawing up as clear a picture as possible on several of them and then going into a shop and having a play...only then, I suppose, will I truly make my mind up....and then spend weeks wondering if I made the right choice Wink

Purchased a 9500 a week ago...unfortunately due to work and the weather not really been able to give it a good try out, apart from a few pics of our cats. What i do know is that it is a very good camera....slightly different than the 620 or 7000 in operation in the fact that you need to use the menu more to get the desired results...The ISO's of 80 and a 100 are a godsend...Image size at 9Mpx fine vary from 4.1 to about 4.8 depending on settings..feels good in the hand....and the start up is A1
    enough for now
Will post more when I have had time to give it a good session...tomorrow if the weather is OK
    Yours...Tomcat

Forgive my ignorance but can anyone explain the reason for the 9500 producing different image sizes.
This morning I had an image of 4.9Mgb at 9Mgp Fine and another at only 4.1Mgb at 9Mgp Fine
It appears that the darker the image the higher Mgb it is.
    Image dimensions do not alter.
    Thanks Adrian

Different amounts of detail in the photo will vary the amount of compression which jpeg images will apply, therefore a more detailed image cannot be compressed as much resulting in a larger file size & vice versa.

I had probably guessed as such but always comforting to receive confirmation....
    Thanks Adrian

Any apprehension I had about the 9500 was put to rest this morning.Went to Wicksteed Park in Kettering for a specific reason and found that there was as American car rally in progress.
So it was forget the original reason for going and out with the camera.Arrived home within the last 15 mins and uploaded the images. As far as I am concerned they are out of this world.Took loads of pics of the cars and also the engines(Brilliant shiny chrome and stainless steeel)
Cars aren't really my scene but the resulting images have left me in no doubt that this is SOME camera.
I will upload some of them over the next few days and let you be the judge

    Thanks Adrian

Did you manage to test the high ISO settings? I would be interested to know if it reduces the noise like on Fuji's F10.
    Thanks.
